The UK’s laziest Councillor?

Reform UK’s Councillor Shaun Knowles in Northumberland has been paid £9340.67 since becoming a councillor.

An FOI has shown he’s sent 2, TWO emails since May!

He’s attended just 1 meeting (in Sept) since elected.

Reform UK wasting tax payer money.

Honestly, this idea that it's "cheaters" who make disability accommodations, SSDI, etc etc tougher is nonsense. The number of people gaming the system is always, ALWAYS dwarfed by the people who need accommodations and don't get them.

Why?

Because that's how the system is designed!

It's World AIDS Day today. Today we recognise the life-saving effect access to education, testing and PrEP has had on reducing new HIV transmissions.

It was six years ago today that a man in Wuhan, China began feeling ill.

He would become the first known COVID case.

Covid is still with us. It’s still killing and disabling.

Clean the air. Wear a mask. Get your boosters.

The policy implications are clear. We need:
✅ Clean Air in schools so kids don't catch #Covid several times a year
✅ To direct JCVI to look again at the costs & benefits of vaccinating kids, including #LongCovid risks
✅ Free vax access
✅ Honest communication of real & serious risks to kids.

"The government doesn't have to first find the money before it spends it."

If only this were said more often, so it was more widely understood.
Isn't it refreshing when someone actually does nuance and detail?

This is a great piece about the distancing of others that happens when you are sick.

When I became sick, other people's behaviour was almost as shocking to me as the illness itself. It's articulated so well here:

If community-building is a bulwark against autocracy, then asking after one another might be a good place to start.

A reminder

"Taking luxury cars out of disability" saves the taxpayer ZERO. Disabled people pay the cost difference themselves.

It also means they can't get a replacement car guarantee. So if you're disabled, you won't be able to get to work if your car breaks down.

There's an advert on his website for a 'Depot Supervisor' that pays £12.75 an hour for shift work.
If he wants to reduce welfare spending maybe he should pay staff enough that they don't need in-work benefits.

Sorry, what now? Personally I tend to think this government suggesting scrapping the right to appeal is potentially an even bigger issue with Lammy's reported proposals than the idiotic idea of getting rid of juries. This would be dangerous territory. #r4today

Debate today with a Labour MP on the economy.

Also with a former advisor to George Osborne.

Very striking how much Labour & the Tories agree on our economic system.

Time for change. Let's make hope normal again. Enjoy! 🙌🏼👇🏼

I suppose the only other factor is that more exertion doesn't expand what you're capable of, the way it does for healthy people. Try to push at that 'border' at which PEM occurs, and you get PEM, period.

Sometimes I forget that normies don’t understand the “possible permanent decline” part. Yes, getting sick after basic tasks is terrible enough. But we want to LIVE. If we could assuredly recover we’d do ALL THE THINGS, get sick, recover & repeat. That alone would be life-changing. #MECFS #LongCovid

PEM is not a single symptom; it's a pathological state in which response to exertion is shock-like: drops in BP, drops in oxygenation, drops in HR, drops in temp, transient drops in cognitive ability.

And doing exercise more, or harder, or more often does not alter the nature of the response.

Deadline: 12 December. If everyone who lost a job or knows someone who lost a job in the #NHS to #LongCovid responded, maybe the NHS could rethink exposing its workers to #Covid with no PPE. Roughly 1 in 3 people losing jobs as a result of having Long Covid are health or social care workers.
The #NHSProductivityCommission Call for Evidence is a chance for you to share your ideas about how productivity could be improved across hospital care, primary care, community care and mental health.

Reading about today's UK #CovidInquiry report and it's bringing out of me a range of emotions.

In particular ANGER that Covid and #LongCovid are still being past-tensed.

I feel abandoned in my new-found disability.

Shame on all who have deliberately undermined this pandemic, vaccination and more.
