Someday when I am old, I hope that one of the following happens. Universal Basic Income, a Federal Anti-Gerrymandering law, the abolishment of the Senate (unlikely), or perhaps the abolishment of the electoral college (more likely than the senate.) then perhaps I can die with hope for the future USA

I saw a post earlier about how Jews have never colonized anyone. I was reading “Legacy of Violence” by Caroline Elkins earlier this year, and I had to stop because it was making me depressed. One of the things that depressed me the most was the accounts of Boer and Israeli violence.

Lawmakers will repeal anti-public union law during a special session, GOP leaders say
The Utah Legislature will have a busy special session this week — to include repealing an anti-public union law they passed earlier this year.

110 years ago today, Utah executed labor organizer and songwriter Joe Hill, whose critique of capitalist greed continues to inspire artists and galvanize activists to this day.
Learn more about Hill and his impact through this project The Tribune launched to mark the 100th anniversary of his death.

So I think I do have to eat my own hat now. Not sure what if deep frying it or pan frying it would be better. Maybe I split it in two and do both?
If Utah manages to get an independently designed congressional representative district map I am going to have to eat my own hat. I will smile a little bit though.

Honestly this was one of the most challenging essays to make. Benatar's anti-natalism contains multiple very clever sleights of hand and mistruths built on top of each other. Sarah was really suffering and sick through the pregnancy. Plus my autistic hyper fixation went into overdrive.
just wanted to share this by my good friends The Leftist Cooks: all about anti-natalism & the ideology behind it.

this is a rare work of actual, novel philosophy on the topic: we are lucky that this is available for free on YouTube. Neilly even wrote a book to accompany it.

I hate that the Majority Report is becoming unlistenable because Emma keeps comparing Platner to Zohran and doing "The establishment hates Platner and is doing this smear campaign and all the bad news is fake" stuff lol

This has been developing here for a long time. I think the first time I became aware things weren’t going well was when the SLC Road Home shut down in 2019. But by 2024 when they proposed this plan it was clear to me this was coming.
Under Trump, the draconian future of homelessness policy is coming into focus: mass internment. Utah is building a 16-acre site to detain up to 1,300 homeless people inside locked "accountability centers." This is profoundly alarming.

I spent pretty much all of 2024 unemployed. Every friend my age is constantly on the edge of losing their housing or work. I’m sure I’d vote for anybody promising to change that if I was more of a normie.
Also the job market has generally gotten harder over the past decade with a convenient spike for Trump during COVID when tech companies were hiring anyone with a pulse. Not strictly Biden's fault but try telling that to a zoomer without class consciousness and looking for a job for 9 months

I have become a regular Majority Report listener over the last year. They are where my interest in Platner spawned. Their justification around continued support of Platner after all this makes logical sense to me at this point. They are hyper focused on progressive Democratic Party politics.

I was missing the Totenkopf
I have been fascinated by Graham Platner’s campaign for the senate in Maine. I think it’s an approach that could work in Utah in the future. Especially if there’s a competitive seat here (fingers crossed). Is there something I am missing though?

I have seen some bad military tattoos in my family, but a Totenkopf tattoo absolutely takes the cake. Needless to say the concerns about Platner are warranted. Sorry I couldn’t figure that out earlier.

I appreciate the energy behind the No Kings protest—it’s a net positive. But it feels a lot like the Women’s March, channeling and containing people’s activism instead of expanding it. What comes after? Does No Kings offer a path forward, or just a release valve that drains our energy?
October 21, 2025 at 4:15 AM
Of course. Because Utahns votes don’t actually matter to the legislature.

I'm not a fictional character and these aren't Easter Eggs. The way that non-binary folk choose to present is not, ipso facto, indicative of a journey towards some other trans identity. It can ebb and flow as much as feels right to them, or based on whatever compromises they have to make.
