This set a precedent for all international criminal law that followed.

Also, the trials, the "just following orders" claims were rejected and personal responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity was established.

I watched the movie Nuremberg recently.

The topic of responsibility for war crimes and aggression has been on our minds a lot, so the movie came right on time.

The Nuremberg trials were groundbreaking at the time: an international team judging citizens of another country⤵️

I had to talk to a reporter (which makes me hugely anxious) from a Prominent Financial Publication today and as always, the dude popped up on-screen in full I-AM-A-JOURNALIST regalia: several layers of t-shirts, 3 days' growth, disheveled hair. They must get taught this in journalism school?

This is DOJ's defense👀

"the evidence clearly demonstrates that Texas was not doing DOJ’s supposed bidding—much less in a race conscious way—but instead was engaged in a race-blind partisan gerrymander that happened to affect the districts DOJ identified."

I genuinely hate having to plug my work on here. I would rather post my cartoons and drawings without a link to my website, but unfortunately social media is an important element of our business, so I have to do it. I do appreciate the reposts and thank you for the support since I came to Bluesky.

Just saw somebody asking for referrals for editors who accept 50% upfront and 50% at the end so that if they're not happy they can get a "refund of half" by . . . not paying. Just in case you're wondering why I don't take CCs and why several editors are moving toward a different payment structure. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Oh hey that's right my stories are free today
Both of my short stories are going to be free this weekend if you're looking for quick reads and like free stuff.

(also they don't have any reviews yet and that's very sad)

(also they're only 99 cents each (or free on KU) if you don't want to wait)

1/ Today, ProPublica is running a piece I've been working on for a bit. It's about what happened with a devastating wave of bird flu earlier this year, as egg prices hit record highs.

And it's a story that illuminates the ways the U.S. is failing to control what could become the next pandemic. 🧵

The people who are making these bullshit anti-science decisions FOR THE WHOLE PLANET will all be dead before the worst of the effects decimate everything, but they'll die rich. This is a wholesale abandonment of every human child in the world, and every other living thing they share that world with.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said today that the fight against climate change was not against the fuels that cause it — only the pollution they emit.
Von der Leyen says EU is not fighting fossil fuels, only emissions
The comment could undermine European countries’ push at COP30 to move away from coal, oil and gas.

Question to all those in book clubs: does your book club ever use the book club questions that some books provide? If so, how do you use them - do you go through the qus as a group, or just get some ideas to facilitate discussion? Do you go for a different format?
