Since this article and its perspectives are generating a bit of buzz, I'd like to dig into what I find distasteful and, frankly, disingenous about it, particularly the ethical values it proclaims. 1/8

Bellingcat’s contact email has always been a magnet for people with fairly unusual views; paranoid delusions, sprawling conspiracies, the works. But recently, the pattern has shifted, we’re seeing more and more emails clearly written with ChatGPT.

Saw this last week but didn't see much commentary, there should be more, because it's an example of how industry concerns about the workability of regulation are often shot down, but ultimately prove true.

Amazingly well written take down of Ocean Vuong.
‘This language is not poetic, but ridiculous, sententious, blinded by self-love and pirouetting over a chasm.’

Tom Crewe reads Ocean Vuong’s second novel, ‘The Emperor of Gladness’:

Can relate.
I made up my accounts, and find myself ‘de claro’ worth about 530l., and no more, so little have I increased it since my last reckoning; but I confess I have laid out much money in clothes.

Great podcast episode: MIT's Emil Verner on Banking Crises, Credit Booms, and the Rise of Populism.
The bit abt Hungary at the end really ties the episode together. Bank runs don't come out of nowhere, neither do political turmoils.

Copyright law is designed to protect individual works, which is legit. They have value.

But there's now a bigger thing with value — the intellectual *space* implied by human cultural productions collectively. If training is fair use, that space belongs to all of us. If not, it can be enclosed. +
