Iirc the judgement wasn't about using copyrighted books to train the AI, but about a portion of the books they didn't purchase but pirated. About the first part they were in the clear. So I don't expect many similar payouts tbh, but I might be wrong.

When all due respect it's expensive for the library as well. Libraries are not rich uncles and academic authors can't offload the burden of a disfunctional scholarly communications system unto them indefinitely. They're struggling.
