The thing is that Russian leadership really does on some level seem to believe that the UK is the dark heart of world transgenderism that's been puppetmastering all opposition Russia has faced in the last 30 years and being Nice and Peaceful won't actually stop them acting on that

Precisely my point. It’s interesting (as well as ironic and discouraging) how some who follow the science on climate—and are infuriated by others who don’t—are not always interested in following the science on public opinion, effective messaging & framing, and how to catalyze change.

Something that's perhaps worth considering in the "does throwing soup at paintings/ paint on Stonehenge help change minds about climate change action" discourse is that this question has been studied and we have data.
Does throwing paint on Stonehenge raise awareness of climate risks + support for climate action? @fisherdanar.bsky.social says, "confrontational climate activism has neither deterred nor encouraged the public... but increased publicity does not necessarily translate into greater public concern."
How effective are climate protests at swaying policy — and what could make a difference?
Why people take to the streets to march against global heating is relatively well documented. But it’s unclear why certain tactics work better than others in reaching the public and policymakers. Why ...

This truly is quite brilliant.
Something amusing I stumbled across the other day:

On July 24, 1945, British Vice Admiral Lord Mountbatten had a drink with Gen. Marshall. He recorded in his diary: "Then Marshall swore me to secrecy and said he would reveal to me the greatest secret of the war" — the atomic bomb. (1/...)

NEIN!

As I recall, Tim Gill's posts about academia are *all* on the joking-to-trolling spectrum. But the ones that work, work because they're so indistinguishable or very very nearly indistinguishable from things people in academia actually say or think.
