I was reading a not-particularly-well-written far future science fiction novel from Kindle Unlimited this week when a rogue “ChatGPT said:” turned up in the text. I’m not sure if I was more disappointed I was reading an LLM’s work product or that the editor missed it.

The Jays didn’t get it done, but the Jags are 2-0 this year when I’m in the stands. Maybe I should go to Arizona and Denver after all?

I get to watch the Jags win in person, and the Jays get it done and win the division. A good Sunday, I think.

Manager: "What's this milestone 'Living on a prayer' ?"
Me: "That's the documentation deliverable."
Manager: "What's the status of that?"
Me: "We're halfway there"
Manager: "Why is progress so slow?"
Me: "You fired Tommy"
Manager: "So?"
Me: "Tommy used to work on the docs"

There will be significant effects on national security from these CISA budget & personnel cuts.
There has also been a general sharp downturn in cyber spending & jobs across the board in the private sector.
The net effect is a nation weakening as attacks increase.
New: Trump's proposed CISA budget would cut $425M and >1,000 positions, w/ deep cuts to partner engagement & risk analysis.

Cuts would affect vuln assessments, shared services, trainings, election security, intl affairs, & more.

Hey DFIR Peeps! I am hiring incident responders in two locations - Boulder, CO and Sunnyvale, CA. It'd be hard to find a bigger CSIRT with more scope and more interesting stuff to do than this one. :D

It's 2025 - please stop using the terms whitelisting and blacklisting. Yes, I know many of these terms were acceptable when you were growing up.

Continuing to use them today shows you're unable to adapt to change, which particularly in high-change environments like cybersecurity, is NOT a good look

Serious question: How many RSA Conference participants from outside the US will pull out, not willing to risk denied entry or detention?

Related question: How many actually are denied entry or detained? We'll probably never know the first number, but the second number won't be zero...

Sometimes I worry that holing up during COVID destroyed my ability to have normal conversations with people, but then I remember that I lacked the ability to be normal in conversations way before 2019.

This is my annual reminder to y'all wonderful folks in infosec: please take care & you're important. Your physical & mental health are important aspects of your life. The work we do & the environments we work in can significantly impact these. There is no shame in taking care of yourself first.💜

When someone mentions the Jags in my feed, I have to look twice to determine if they’re talking about the football team, the car maker, or the lawyers.

As we incident responders creep into the holidays and wait for our annual December surprise, I can't help thinking about burnout - always a relevant topic! Like most ops topics, I have a lot of thoughts on the matter.
