From today's Chronicle of Higher Ed briefing. I am *never* an advocate of cutting programs. But I am curious to see if there will be the same type of "students aren't majoring in this, so let's cut the program" discourse around computer science as there always is for the arts and humanities.

When you read a sentence produced by a GPT chatterbot, and you believe you understand what that sentence *means,* that is the same thing as imagining a bunny in a cloud. Or it’s like believing a compliment from a pathological people-pleaser.

When I say some folks (mainly MAGAs, the TACO administration, the genocidal State of Israel, transphobes, etc.) talk exactly like flat earthers, this is an inductive argument by analogy. And the argument is rooted in a theory of semantics (how words mean things):

Being nice to people is just fun. Asked young server at taco place how her day was going (fine but tired) and she asked me back. I said I managed to finish my to-do list and she unexpectedly gave me a high five! Treating people like people is always rewarding.
