This is true in Europe too, by the way.
Immigration is a fake problem. We have politicians on the one hand who want to use immigrants as scapegoats for our real ones and politicians on the other who are too cowardly to stand against them and tell the truth. That is the entire situation. Until that changes, people will continue to die.

Presumably they will also be attempting to astroturf US government talking points onto the app and suppress speech they dislike algorithmically, I'm sure the scumbaggery will proceed in short order. But the ToS is not now suddenly a new admission of nefarious intent. It was ALWAYS invasive.

We should all already be baseline a bit freaked out about how much data every app we ever use collects, and sells to advertisers and governments, but the main difference with TikTok at this point is they'll probably sell it to the US government for cheaper than they used to.

TikTok is under US government-associated ownership now, and that absolutely means you should be increasingly worried about the data it collects, but as dr Casey points out here, there isn't new language in its ToS to freak out about.
There are very valid reasons to be upset about new TikTok ownership! but this is not a list of data they collect, it’s a list of what you may disclose.Was also in the TikTok policy already. It didn’t change. (Right is today, left is from wayback machine.)
