Perinatal mental health screening adds to the workload of busy NICU teams.

How does it impact our ability to detect mental health concerns amongst NICU parents? And how do parents view screening?

Immigration policies are creating impossible choices for NICU families.

Parents are afraid to visit their infants, deterred by anti-immigrant rhetoric and fear of U.S. ICE actions at hospitals.

Ask your legislator to support the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act.

If we want more people to get help for perinatal depression, removing co-payments for therapy might help.

Study by @stephanievhall.bsky.social & co found enrollees in employer-sponsored plans who had perinatal mood/anxiety disorders had more therapy visits if their out-of-pocket costs were lower.

Prolonging CPAP in the preterm to improve pulmonary outcomes
I wrote about this trial after last year's PAS meeting, mentioning that it looked like a potential significant improvement in respiratory care of the preterm The full publication confirms that is a real possibility. McEvoy CT, et al. Extended Continuous Positive Airway Pressure in Preterm Infants Increases Lung Growth at 6 Months: A Randomized Controlled Trial. Am J Respir Crit Care Med. 2025;211(4):610-8. The trial enrolled 100 preterm infants (24 to 32 weeks GA) who had at least 24 hours of CPAP and were considered ready to have the CPAP stopped (5 cmH2O, 21% O2, without tachypnoea or retractions or frequent apnoea, and tolerating breaks from CPAP during care procedures).

504 plans are how kids can carry EpiPens or make sure their classroom is peanut free. It’s how kids with diabetes can use insulin. It’s how kids with mobility issues can have more passing time or use an elevator. An attack on 504 is an attack on everyone. Listen to @lollardfish.bsky.social.
NEW: On Section 504. "Attacks on any one group will be used as a wedge to attack all of us. You may not personally know any trans people, and you may even be uncomfortable with the idea ... but letting this attack go forward will eventually hurt you and the things you love, too." /1
Why are Republican states trying to overturn a pillar of disability rights?
They may not be successful in repealing Section 504 as part of the attack on treating gender dysphoria, but it begs the question of what they might come for next.
