Today’s @oxpip.bsky.social lecture by @pvrticka.bsky.social was the most exciting, interesting lecture I’ve heard in years. Pascal walked us from the origins of attachment theory through modern development, to myths, misconceptions & misuse, and finished on hope & opportunity. A masterclass 👏🏻

Pro tip, folks: if you make a figure for a publication, don’t just hand the copyright over to the publisher. Post it on OSF first and then give yourself permission to use it in the first publication and then all future publications. That way, no permissions issues.

Excellent blog about high quality longitudinal studies tracking psychological distress in adults over 30 years.

Only small ⬆️ over time. Peaks potentially linked to:

Social media
Austerity

I would suggest the 2016-2018 peak might be related to deep social division caused by referenda

I had a fabulous day of walking near Thirlmere yesterday as training for the big challenge walk I’m doing in June.

I could see the Solway Firth and Scottish hills over Bassenthwaite. It’s so peaceful yet invigorating.

This week, I spoke with one of the Duolingo contractors impacted by its 'new' AI strategy, and they clarified that

1) it's not new. Duolingo has *already* fired an estimated 100 writers and translators.

2) they worked for months training an AI system that still makes egregious mistakes.
