I had a fabulous day of walking near Thirlmere yesterday as training for the big challenge walk I’m doing in June.

I could see the Solway Firth and Scottish hills over Bassenthwaite. It’s so peaceful yet invigorating.

Disturbing. Someone just liked one of my Bluesky posts from November 2024. Except, I’ve never posted this. I’ve never had a clinical teaching fellowship at Warwick. Looks like me, but definitely wasn’t me. Not happy.

Change of venue for me today. Giving this peak a try. Pen-y-Ghent will be my first Yorkshire Peak. 🥾

That’s beautiful, thanks for posting your photos. They always make me miss home.

Here’s my shot from the top of Loughrigg last Thursday. It’s a corker 😁

Loughrigg Fell is reputedly the only summit from which you can see 6 of the Lakes. Today wasn’t a day to prove or disprove that, but it was nevertheless a good season-opener for me and my eldest. I got my Grasmere gingerbread at the bottom too so I’m happy 😊

Found myself a nice little walk to open the season. It’ll remind me I need to train more 😁 But the bonus will be a pack of Grasmere Gingerbread to bring home. Sounds weird I know but it’s amazing with pâté and pear.

Today I’m at the second annual Oxfordshire Domestic Abuse Conference, led by Oxon County Council but representing multiple partners. The theme is Seldom Heard Voices so I’m delighted to see “Babies, Children and Young People” on the agenda. Babies are still invisible too often in DA response.

Katharine Barber from Homestart Oxford speaking today at Oxfordshire Inclusive Economic Partnership. The Growing Minds School Readiness Project is a fantastic project and a blueprint for other areas. Great venture between Home Start Oxford , @peeplecentre.bsky.social and The Berin Centre 🧵

Loved both of these series. History, wilderness, interesting characters and stories.

Anyone know any other mountain/wilderness related box sets to recommend whilst I’m wintering? I’m half way through Yellowstone but need something to run alongside it.

I treated myself yesterday by finishing a job that’s been stalking me for 12 months. I kept putting it off because I knew it would be difficult and lengthy (and it was). I am no seamstress for sure! But my niece now has a beanbag from this brilliant female footballers fabric by Little Johnny fabrics

I’m absolutely delighted to hear this, even if the announcement is super late. Great news for families and staff, but most of all for babies!

This highly successful lawyer talks of his experience of persistent depression & his many attempts to end his life. Thankfully he has survived them.

This sentence stood out to me, as a comment on the roots of mental ill health & when & how they can sometimes start.

Good to see The Next 1000 days (2-5 years) getting attention, to consolidate gains children make in the First 1000 days (conception to 2)

This new article from the Lancet estimates the cost of not investing before 5 years is 8-19 times higher in later costs!

I don’t often work weekends but I was delighted to meet delegates from the LGA children’s services leadership development programme for council members today. They were insightful and curious about the importance of the first 1001 days. And who doesn’t love chatting about babies!

I’m going to try Porto over the weekend. There’s another app mentioned here too
