There's going to be a lot about AI in the UK press today. This is your reminder that AI does not equal LLMs and generative AI. They are a subset of a vast field but get a lot of exposure due to their accessibility. There are many other fields that have been providing practical solutions for decades.

I keep hearing an advert where when you buy a TV or something, you get cashback. This cashback is proclaimed as being "conveniently available in your Samsung wallet". Well Samsung, I think you and I have very different interpretations on the meaning of convenient in this case.

The utterly shameless & widely covered "report" out today, claiming net zero will "cost" £9tn is based on:

* Assuming free fossil-fuel energy, free petrol cars, free gas boilers, free gas power plants etc

AND

* Including climate damages in the "cost" of net zero

I kid you not, it is that stupid
🧵A political/media guide to the "truth" about net-zero

1) Add up costs to install & run a net-zero energy system
2) Pretend fossil-fuelled alternatives wld be free
3) Do say "eco zealots are bankrupting us"
4) Don't say "free cars if we scrap net-zero" cos it sounds ridiculous
5) That's it!

Welcome to new Bluesky users.

Here’s how we do things:

1. Always observe the Hambledon Protocol

2. No flisking

3. If someone tealights you, rink them without apology

4. I don’t mind them so much, but tissue-posts are generally frowned on

5. No questions

Good luck!

Looking at doing my annual subscribe to Zwift for a couple of months. It's gone super expensive! I see MyWoosh is free. What's the catch? Anyone using it? I don't really race but do like having the motivation to chase riders down.

What's one word that you type a lot but can never spell correctly?

Mine's 'privileges'. Still looks wrong to me. I's and E's all the wrong way round and I swear it should have a D in it.

I, for one, would prefer it if the people who decided to stay on Twitter don't suddenly start posting on here. I like my current bubble.

Commenting as Govt launch a road safety strategy.

Every death on our roads is unacceptable. We need a Vision Zero ethos: no deaths or serious injury. Change driving culture, reject speeding, use speed-limiting tech, strengthen sentences, end ‘accident’ language. Driving is a privilege, not a right.

Today's tech frustration. My mouse and keyboard have lost everything but the most basic of functionality due to the Logitech servers having issues. WTF does my mouse need to talk to a server to work properly!?!?

On the subject of Christmas cake; despite technically being a southerner, I have some Yorkshire connections. If you haven't tried Christmas cake and mature Cheddar cheese then you're missing out.

Me at 8am today: Right, on the scales. Time to lose this Christmas paunch.

Me this evening: Well this yard of Jaffa Cakes I got for Christmas isn't going to eat itself and that homemade Christmas cake is going to go stale if I don't eat it soon.
