My latest piece, for the History News Network - why sending federal troops into US cities is a 2nd Amendment Issue.

I've written a bunch of op-eds and the like over the years. This is my best one yet.

Deploying Federal Troops to U.S. Cities Is a Second Amendment Issue
But not because the founders wanted to see more guns in the hands of Americans.

Anyway, happy new year to all.
I'm here less than I used to be and, in my case, I'm better off for it.
My only regret is that, somehow, in ways that escape me, during the last few months my really really obscure posts here do not seem to have resonated...

This season, there have been four instances where an offense has gained fewer than 20 yards in the entire second half.

Two were by the Eagles.

They won both games (today and Week 4).

Post a perfect album from the 90s that isn't Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden or Alice in Chains.

an easy way to understand this is that people make clothes cool and not the other way around. so our judgement of what looks "good" is often shaped by the cultural capital of various social groups. punks, skaters, hip hop heads, etc look stylish simply bc they are cool. thus money is not a barrier.

Only game the Shustermans (we're not all Shustermans) have attended in forever.

Yeah, not ideal. But was good to be in the building, and let The Kid see what an NBA game is like.
The only game the Kapadias have attended this year.

Found out Edgecombe was out on the drive over.

Maxey's worst game of the season.

Classic Embiid injury scare.

And Bricken for Chicken didn't hit.

We want our money back!
Probably only one true stinker so far this year from the Sixers. Well, make it two.

Even down three of your better guys with the illness (VJ-Grimes-Barlow) and the Nets playing much better, this is pretty brutal stuff. Maxey and McCain are 2-20 from the field!

Team Ellipsis... but I appreciate the sentiment.
My love for em dashes is as old as the hills and as mighty as my inability to make a transition between thoughts literally any other way and I will be damned if I let the clankers take that from me

Year 1 data on congestion pricing in Manhattan…

* Vehicle traffic: -11%
* Foot traffic: +3.4%
* Storefront vacancy: -0.9%
* Pollution: -22%
* Revenue for mass transit: $548M

So YES this has been a huge success.

Good thing I wasn't a columnist back when they first started putting cameras in cell phones. "No one wants a camera in their phone," I stated confidently, to anyone within earshot...
30 years ago this month, the New York Daily News ran this article bemoaning how complicated coffee had become, bemused by Dalton's introduction of pumpkin spice coffee and Starbucks' eggnog lattes, noting that specialty coffee "is a fad--like breweries. It's already peaked."
