It was lovely meeting another gray curly haired woman in the grocery store. I pointed to her head and said LOVE THE CURLS! And she pointed at mine and exclaimed LIKEWISE!

Yep. At the grocery store sometimes it seems like those of us of a certain age exist in a different dimension. We can see and hear everyone, including each other, but younger people cannot see or hear us — until we somehow cross the barrier between worlds and get their attention.

I have no doubt the lecture fell on unlistening ears and an unwilling mind. Our vice president was there purely for a photo op with the Pope. He got it, and sadly for our vice president, that's all he will take away from meeting a better man than he. It's all he was capable of taking away from it.
I appreciate that one of his last acts was to have a cardinal lecture a sitting vice president about empathy.
