Is it really *that hard* to say that it is totally morally wrong to say to people who have come here legally, worked, paid taxes, built their lives here, contributed to Britain, that they have to fuck off now, rather than "unfunded".
Keir Starmer’s spokesperson asked for the PM's response to Nigel Farage’s plan to deport hundreds of thousands of people living and working completely legally in the UK, replies that he thinks it is “unworkable” and “unfunded”.

So his objection is that they’ve got their sums wrong

Here, @davidallengreen.bsky.social identifies the crux of the problem with AI in the legal profession (and I would include legal academia and education there).

Speaking practically, the thing to wait for now is the EHRC guidance. This will be what shapes how this new interpretation of the Equality Act 2010 applies on the day-to-day for trans people accessing various spaces, as it is what people are likely to follow in practice.

Lord Justice William Davis quietly pointing out that a pre-sentence report can make a prison sentence more - rather than less - likely is *chef’s kiss*

This isn’t two-tier justice. It’s just information about offenders.

And information cuts both ways.

I recommend the article to anyone interested in how people with autism and/or learning disability are affected by the Mental Health Act 1983 and Mental Health Bill 2024! 👀📖

Can anyone recommend a good source on the legal power and effect of US Executive orders?
(Looking for legal commentary rather than journalism ideally)
I have UK law background and little US legal knowledge.

It would be fun to have sideline reporters at academic conferences.

Reporter: "Prof. Rothman, how do you come back from such a devastating Q&A? They really hammered you out there."

Me: "All we can do is go back to the archives, find more evidence, and then just trust the process, Helen."

Having not read the sentencing remarks, I’m cautious about rushing to conclusions, but on its face Feathers McGraw appears to be a prime example of the rampant sentence inflation that has led to chronic overcrowding in our zoos and the unedifying spectacle of animals being released early.
Curious to know whether
@barristersecret.bsky.social thinks 30 years behind bars for robbery and attempted murder was a fair sentence for Feathers McGraw? It seems a bit steep #WallaceAndGromit

Either way the drafting could have been much more economical. Eg on the third day my true love gave “3 French hens plus the Day 2 gifts”. And so on until on the 12 day you get “12 drummers drumming plus the Day 11 gifts”.
I feel that at this point of the 12 days of Christmas, and as a lawyer, I should make clear that the gifts are sequential, not cumulative. This is for anyone disappointed with just the one partridge, two french hens and three calling birds so far.
