Did this with Alan Garner last year, I can highly recommend
in 2026 instead of lore-diving whatever giant franchise benefits from your engagement try doing it with any writer/director with a substantial body of work but no “fandom”. Marie Ndiaye. Maryse Conde. Samuel Fuller. See where it gets you. If you gotta have a static setting do Mervyn Peake

My wife and I are carers for our friend who is also our flatmate and it never ceases to amaze me how weird people are about it. No, our housebound severely chronical ill friend isn't planning on moving out soon, no she's not dying, yes you can be that ill, yes some people who have it aren't as ill.

my fellows in big five publishing are looking to a future in which AI is pushed onto them by the higher-ups with little thought, meanwhile 99% of the indies I know are coming out against it
I tried to read that AI defense from an author I'd never heard of before, sorry, anthologist, and I gave up. If you call spellcheck AI, then you're just muddying the waters. And stating that small presses disproportionately depend on AI generated materials? Is this for real?

Anyway when I told some MA students under her tutoring about this they said that they were sure the uni "had their safety and best interests at heart" and "we shouldn't be digging into her business" 🙃🙃
Hey, fair warning for any people who programme lit events/festivals. Convicted stalker Sarah Stovell is publishing her books under the name of Mollie Kendrick now. She specfically stalked a writer she met on retreat for FIFTEEN YEARS.

I'm just so tired of constantly pointing out writers who are also predators (with receipts) and there being NO CONSEQUENCES

Contraband the rat has perfected making a noise of pure indignation, which he makes every time I pick him up when he's in the middle of something. I call this noise the Squrunt. Half squeak, half grunt.
