this field biologist does a great job highlighting the insidiousness of AI editing

these one-click AI edit buttons are incredibly appealing to many photographers, amateurs and professionals alike, and are framed as innocuous

this is worth sharing and educating people about

Hot take, but I think if you have an audience, you are responsible for that audience because they're a reflection of you.

If folks are in your spaces harassing other people, especially on your behalf, and you choose to do nothing about it, you're letting everyone know that's acceptable to you.

I face my computer, reciting the Canticle of the Start Menu. It responds "Understood, applying update." and renews my Game Pass for a decade. Fearfully, I hum the Hymn of Undoing. My OneDrive is made public and posted to Teams for all to mock. I begin to cry. Another month of Game Pass is added.
This is the future of Windows. Microsoft wants to rewrite Windows to turn computers into AI PCs that you talk to. It's now bringing AI features to all Windows 11 PCs today, in a bid to convince you to talk to your PC and let AI control it. Full details 👇 www.theverge.com/news/799768/...

Poco is an absolutely darling point-and-click adventure that deserves so much more attention. Gorgeous animations, beautiful painted backgrounds, and a charming yet unexpectedly somber story. It's free on Steam and only takes 1-2 hours to beat. Do check it out ♥️

Had a lot of thoughts in my mind this week with the Steam & itchio bans and a book review I've received, so I've decided to write a little article on transgressive games:

Super Columbine Massacre RPG! —  20 years later, are the limits are still winning?
A few days ago someone left a very angry review of The CRPG Book, criticizing me for featuring Super Columbine Massacre RPG!:

'Friendslop' Isn't Real, But People Love Posting About It Anyway - Aftermath
As the term "friendslop" spread on social media I started to realize that the term, said genuinely, had never actually existed at all.

Features are now designed solely to look good on the quarterly OKR report of demented silicon valley managers... AI translation usage is up 3,000% percent, they just had to force it on all users, with no option to turn it off!! Genius, promote this lunatic and ask the next one to push it to 5,000%!!

When a chatbot gets something wrong, it’s not because it made an error. It’s because on that roll of the dice, it happened to string together a group of words that, when read by a human, represents something false. But it was working entirely as designed. It was supposed to make a sentence & it did.

Whenever I see "AI ethics concerns" it's always crap like "should Claude have a social security number?!" and not "should OpenAI all be in jail for marketing ChatGPT like it's your friend and designing it to prioritize continuous engagement above all else?"
Oh yeah, Blake Lemoine basically got addicted to talking to the chatbot, personified it, then asked it a bunch of existential questions, to which it regurgitated mashups of 2001 and I, Robot.

2009's MMO addiction is going to look like peanuts compared to the wave of chatbot addiction that's coming.

"The nature of forgeries, a subject on which I may boast of some small expertise, is to fool the least discerning, not the most; it is to convince the general public that true greatness never existed, that imitation is reality, that shoddiness is quality. It is an assault on pleasure itself."
