Historian, sometimes archivist, animal-lover, Trans ally, annoyingly progressive and unapologetic. Firm believer in socialized healthcare (Medicare for All) and principles of MMT. Would happily eat the rich if it helped make a better world for all.
I used to be a fairly nice person. Didn't wish harm on others, didn't grave-dance (all that kind of thing). Rarely used the term hate' unless it was describing hateful behavior by others or cruciferous vegetables.

I am not that person anymore. They have killed the angels of my better nature.

This is a solid small charity that has raised funds to provide a little holiday warmth to over a 1000 folk over the past three years.
Help if you can (very cute cards - or you can just donate a little, if that's how you roll).

So they didn’t like the ad. Let’s just post Reagan’s 5 min speech against tariffs as it appears on YouTube.

Over and over. On all platforms (some of y’all are still on X).

Glad to read this - because this I understand. It's been common practice for a very long time.
Setting up a base on US soil was too bizarre to believe.
Yes, it's on an existing installation. The same base hosts a detachment from Singapore. And the possibility of the Qatari arrangement was (apparently) discussed back in 2022.

I despise Kegsbreath, but I don't think this sets up a foreign military base in the US.

Idaho Air Force base will host a Qatari F-15 training unit
Qatar will set up a facility inside Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, which already serves a training base for Singaporean pilots.

Since each house of Congress makes its own rules - and they do that only to their benefit - can the states impose rules on their elected members that would trigger an instant recall election if they don't do their jobs - or switch party once elected or the other nonsense they do?

Remember when Robert Byrd would pull out his pocket copy of the Constitution?
He wasn't perfect, but he certainly understood his professional relationship to that founding document.
I could go for some Constitutional "Red Card" action right now.

Today I checked the status of Capt. Wayne C. Irsch, the USAF officer whose MIA wristband I wore daily for over 25 years and still look at every day. His plane, piloted by Col. Norman M. Green, crashed in Laos in Jan 1968.
Capt. Irsch is still listed as Unaccounted.
You are remembered.

I regularly boggle at Trump's insane screeds - but this one is terrifying.
I'm with Mr. Elias all the way. We cannot play tit-for-tat. We have to snuff out this wildfire consuming our democracy.
Trump is telling us his plan for 2026. Those of us who care about free and fair elections must take him seriously and literally. We cannot simply bring guns to a gun fight. We need to bring missiles.

Speaking as an old crone - I am so sick of these frowsy MAGA females with the beachy waves and evening make-up pretending they know ANYTHING. Even the few with some modicum of education. The administration is churning them out of some factory somewhere.

Over 100 million Americans live with medical debt—disproportionately affecting people of color and low-income families.

Medicare for All ends surprise bills and medical bankruptcies, letting families focus on healing, not collections.

Great ad - and Mr. Turek looks like a great candidate to toss Ernst out of office.
Do it, Iowa!!
I was born an underdog. 21 surgeries by the age of 12 for spina bifida. A kid wearing goodwill hand-me-downs. I knew nothing would come easy, but I never doubted my right to the American dream.

Now, I'm running for the U.S. Senate to make sure all Iowans have a shot at theirs.

usually if you ask experts why an empire fell they’ll say it’s nuanced and multifaceted, so i think it’s kind of cool that with America future historians will get to just say like “oh they took the idiot train to moronsville”

Luring Congress with sweetheart deals to pass an up/down vote on multiple projects (this would work, unfortunately).
Exemption from existing regulations, including lowering required wages for workers.

The EHRC – the body which is meant to protect our human rights – is proposing guidance which would turn the Equality Act into a bathroom ban. If this becomes law, it would force trans people out of public life.

And terrifyingly - this is all happening behind closed doors 🧵

The first time Charlie Chaplin used his voice in a film, he wielded it to forcefully condemn the rising forces of fascism around the globe.

Will we listen to his words today?
