hot damn my friends, this is a *masterwork* of pedagogy. if you care at all about my opinions on education, read this.
My manifesto (er, article) is out in AERA Open today! It’s about how #neoliberal & #racial capitalist logic worms its way into far too many project-based learning experiences, and what #educators can do about it. Come for the righteous anger. Stay for the solutions!

I think any story about Trump's autocracy should be mostly about the people and institutions who failed to stop it. This guy isn't a political genius, everything else just happens to be rotten. 'Toddler Consolidates Power In Household' is a story about incompetent parents, not shrewd maneuvering

AI makes effective science communication more difficult and more important than ever.

More difficult because AI makes laypeople think they can bypass experts and interpret data for themselves.

And more important because AI's errors threaten to further erode laypeople's trust in science itself.
I need more people to know about this nonsense happening in my comments…

Me: here’s a detailed review of this study.

Sex and the City is such an absurd cultural artifact.

image: four hwight girls hwalking into a movie theatre, a soundtrack of Aretha playing Respect in the background, as Carrie Bradshaw explains in sagely voiceover how married and single folk are just like the Northern Irish, not a *real* war. 😐

it is one of the fundamental ironies of our society, that Tim Burton simply does not understand The Addams Family.

I don't know who originally wrote it or remember who I first heard it from but "A liberal is someone who opposes every war except the current war and supports all civil rights movements except the one that’s going on right now." is the truest thing ever said and it just keeps on getting truer

Aaron Sorkin really thought a series about a pseudo-heroic Republican journalist during the Obama years was a stroke of political genius, didn't he?

i suppose it *is* the ideal spiritual successor to the neoliberal circlejerk president show.

looking forward to a great Skip Intro essay at least.

I do a lot of yearning these days. I don't know what that's about, but maybe something or someone will satiate my yearns.

"Okay, how about 40+ months before the next general election?"

"Fuck you, why do you want Trump to win?"

i wish JK Rowling to be relieved of her gross fortunes, deplatformed and unable to continue doing as much harm as she has.

i wish her a legacy of disdain, that her works become footnotes in history akin to beanie babies or tickle-me-elmo. some weird capitalist hiccup we all agree was a mistake.
I wish ill on JK Rowling. I *also* wish ill on the Bluesky mods who suspended Jessie Gender.

We once spoke with a well-regarded dev psych who told us that of course they know & work with actual cognitive scientists and they would be the first to tell you a classroom shouldn't look like a cognitive science lab.
Maybe people know enough about #cogsci to know it's not sufficient to build thriving, healthy human learning spaces around, and people like Zach Groshell are fringe because they're wrong?

My least popular (and most correct) view is that cars should be automatically limited to the local speed limit. Put the pedal to the floor and you still can't go over 25mph in a residential area.

(15 in Manhattan btw)
There is no possible justification for limiting e-bikes to 15mph but not cars.

All you need to know about transphobes/terfs/gender critical people is that they think trans people have an unfair advantage in chess.
World chess just placed restrictions on both trans women and trans men
The International Chess Federation will stop allowing transgender women to participate in women's tournaments. The group said changing genders has a "significant impact" on a player's status.

just overheard someone complaining that Terry Pratchett 'spoils the mystery' by giving readers too much inside information up front instead of keeping us guessing.

and it occurred to me how hard this cultural shift has been into media that wants to *surprise* its audience... (🧵1/4)

The last episode of The Good Place is the worst episode of The Good Place.

the whole series benefits from ending at episode 51.
