Koana’s answering scoff had a bit of a hitch in it. “I didn’t take you to be such a romantic.” “That is not usually a word people would use to describe me, no.” B’alith’s ears flicked in embarrassment at the acknowledgement of Koana’s observation, and the truth in his words. “I am as unaccustomed to speaking from the heart like this as you are, but I meant every word I said.” He grinned, unable to resist the opportunity to poke fun at them both just a little. “Hackneyed as they may be.” Koana snorted and gave him an affectionate shove. “They sounded just fine to me.” B’alith smiled again, relief that he seemed to have navigated an unfamiliar emotional landscape without causing too much damage sweeping over him. “How does dinner sound, then? Tacos with Lamaty’i and Intana perhaps, if they’re not too busy saying their own goodbyes?” “I think I’d rather have you all to myself for a little while longer, if that's alright." “That’s more than alright.” B'alith acknowledged him with one of the slow, lazy blinks that Eorzean Miqo'te used to communicate trust and affection—a gesture that would be lost on his Turali lover, he knew, but one that felt important nonetheless. “Don’t tell your sister, but I prefer Aunt Tii’s tacos over Br’uk Evu’s, and I don’t think I could bear to break her heart like that and then leave you to deal with the fallout.” He lost himself in the shape of a familiar body moving against his, all lean muscle and slender curves; the aggressive, untamed hunger that hummed under the surface of such careful, practiced touches. Will you be quiet and let me–” There was the sudden awful feeling like someone had just inserted a fishhook behind his breastbone and yanked. Hard. He felt himself be pulled from the spot he’d been rooted to a moment before the icicle he’d been hiding behind shattered, sending razor-sharp fragments of ice directly into the path of where he’d been standing. Several of them whistled past close enough that he could feel the disturbance in the air against his cheek, an icy caress that would have shattered his focus as effectively as the abrupt and unwanted rescue from the Scion conjurer against whose chest he was currently pressed. “And I said,” the conjurer—Theo something, was that his name?—hissed in his ear, “I don’t think you should be standing there.” he put his hand on B’alith’s shoulder and shoved, sending him skidding on the icy floor. “Next time consider listening to me, and you’ll not have to restart whatever it is you thaumaturges have to start in order to make fire happen.”

It was as if the world had become muted, its colors dulled. And still Kiliaen worked. If history was going to pivot so drastically—as it so often does, the rise and fall of civilizations were nothing new—he’d do everything he could to ensure their stories would be preserved. If not for himself, then for the time that surely their deity would be restored. In this central room of the temple, he would store the many scrolls that would outline their history, their rituals, their practices. He would take his time. However much time it would take to ensure they were properly protected, the sigils on them correctly placed and magicked. It was imperative that this knowledge reached those in the future that they could trust. With care, he stuck his index finger in the magicked pot of ink, drawing the strokes he became so familiar with during training, that he was told he would probably never need to use. The practice sheets from way back then had been destroyed, as had been common practice, which added another layer to this out of body experience. When one imagined the end of the world as they knew it, he assumed they did not think they would be hunched over religious and historical texts. But if he were honest with himself, he had no other place he’d rather be. At least under the circumstances. There were a couple places he’d rather be. One that no longer existed. At least not corporeally. The other was who-knows-where probably combating the intense physical symptoms of the severing of a mental bond. His finger shook as that thought flitted through his mind and he paused. The ink running on the parchment, its edges growing hazy, the stroke much too wide. Immediately, she took a defensive stance, wary of the man before her. “You bit me!” Astarion shook his hand as if that would rid him of the wound. “Hells, if you’re into that kind of thing, you only had to tell me.” Licking his lips, he smiled devilishly as if he savored her savagery. His eyes were sharp as they peered down at her, all sharp angles and blood red. Her heart pounded. “Trust me, I’m not. Not unless I’m the one biting.” “Oh, don’t knock it ‘til you try it, darling.” Sarynna squinted, her words dripping with sarcasm. “I’ll keep that in mind.” “There, civil conversation. Can we try again?” He put his hands on his hips. “Frankly, whatever your past, it doesn’t change that you’re one of the more sickeningly kind people I’ve had the displeasure of interacting with. I just need to know who I’m working with and if you can perform at full capacity, all the better. We don’t have the luxury of presenting or best selves. Time is against us.” Shaking her head, Sarynna’s eyes flitted about while she considered his words. It’s not as if being kind has entirely endeared her to the vampire. She noticed his annoyance when she went out of her way to help people, no matter how small. Perhaps this could work in her favor. Perhaps he’d find a kindred spirit if he knew the truth and that was something she could use to her advantage. “I thought you already gave me my final chance?” “I’m feeling generous.” Screenshot of text from AO3: Her hands roam over the cloth of his robes and he curses them. How far has the world fallen? How far has he fallen? At this moment, he is not Elidibus, Emissary. He is a man fallen prey to instinctual need, led by the whims of his flesh. A flesh that has spent way too long being denied it’s desires. But who is here to police him? None are left. It is only him. So in solitude, he is cast from the heavens and plummets to the earth to spend eternity amongst the mortals. I can gather the hardwood from the deep woods. Those trees grow like weeds, I swear. If we need more copper or iron, I can get that too.” “Ore is handled. We have plenty.” “Good, good.” She hummed. “A week or so? Starting… after the festival about? So day after tomorrow?” “That’s the plan if you sign off.” “And if I don’t?” He shrugged. “Your suffering I suppose.” “Then I suppose I must.” Smiling, she looked up at him. “By the way, I didn’t know you had a spare room.” Sheepishly, he looked away. “Oh, I don’t.” “Scandalous! Just one bed between the two of us?” Heat rushed through his cheeks. “Don’t start that again.” “But my virtue!” “Evie…” She grabbed his hand with a tongue in teeth smile. “I’m teasing. C’mon, let’s go tell the dynamic carpentry duo they’ve got a job on their hands.”

Maomao sighed. “Master Jinshi, how am I supposed to give you a kiss if you have your head tucked away like that?” Jinshi perked up, his violet eyes shining with awe. “You’ll really do it?” He checked. “Yes, Master Jinshi, now hold still,” Maomao nodded. ‘Don’t act shocked when you’re the one who asked me to do it in the first place.’ He tilted his head up towards her, as she brushed aside her hair. She leaned in, Jinshi closing his eyes as she approached. She once again noticed how handsome he was, and how if it had been anyone other than her, they’d leap into far more than kissing without even needing to be asked. And as she inched towards his lips, she got the sense that if it were anyone other than him, she’d never comply to such wild demands. She brushed her lips on his with the softest of touches, unsure of how much pressure to apply or how long to linger. His lips were warm against hers, and as she pulled away, she found she could still taste the faint flavor of sake. “There, Master Jinshi, may I please take you back to your-” She stopped mid-sentence, realizing he’d put his hand on hers. His face was lit up and his eyes glittered as though he’d just witnessed a miracle. And Maomao couldn’t help how such a small thing could inspire such a beautiful expression. And just as swift as their kiss had been, Jinshi began to sway, his eyes struggling to stay open as he collapsed into her chest. Maomao panicked, wondering if he had intended all along for more than just a kiss, only to realize he’d simply fallen asleep. She let out a soft chuckle, wondering just how much of this he would remember in the morning. And as the sun began to dip below the horizon, she wondered if it meant that he, too, would vanish from her sight once they had brought night to all of Norvrandt. Text from the fanfic The Stars Will Remember Us Text reads: Caldarus broke into a gentle grin. “All the more fortunate you’re in the company of a dragon,” He mused, lifting the pot. With a small flick of his wrist, flame danced upon his fingertips, holding steady at the bottom of the pot. He glanced at Eiland, his eyes sparkling with awe in the light of the display of magic before him. The teapot hissed, the brew inside once again at it’s boiling point. “I’ve always imagined what magic would look like… But seeing it with my own eyes is another thing entirely,” Eiland muttered with awe, Caldarus returning the teapot to it’s resting place. “Tis only a charm at best,” Caldarus assured, retrieving two cups and handing one to Eiland. “Though at my current form, it’s the most I can muster these days.” Eiland glanced down at his cup, mimicking the motion Caldarus had used to summon the flame. “It is still pretty miraculous if you ask me,” He insisted. “Though I can’t help but wonder what other charms you might know.” Caldarus filled Eiland’s cup slowly, flashing him a sly smile. “So you wish to know all my charms now, my young lord?” Eiland nearly dropped his cup, frantically trying to keep from spilling the hot tea. Caldarus swiftly placed his hand on Eiland’s, the few stray drops splashing against his skin. “Napkins!” Eiland exclaimed, setting the cup down and throwing open his basket. “It’s quite alright,” Caldarus assured, “It will take more than a little hot water to harm me.” Eiland pulled out a cloth, grabbing Caldarus’ hand and wiping it clean. “Even so, I’d feel bad if it left a scar,” Eiland explained, softly gliding his thumb over the back of Caldarus’ hand. “Though I guess you could say it’s payback for teasing me.” Caldarus let out a chuckle. “I shall have to be more cautious with my jests, then.” He paused, the warmth from Eiland’s hand on his burning him far more than the tea had, albeit infinitely more pleasantly. He bit back the urge to tell her that it was not simply the dress that was beautiful, but the Princess herself whose beauty drew the eye. He had their positions to consider, after all. And with the Chronos situation still at the forefront, the last thing she needed was the advance of a suitor. "Of… Of course, Princess." "Woah, isn't that like… What got Arachne turned into a spider in the first place?" Dora mumbled aloud. "It is," Melinoe nodded solemnly. "But she is a dear friend to me regardless, and maybe one day I can pay her back for all her kindness to me. For now, however, my main goal is to free my family and return home so I may put this dress on for it's intended use." "I can think of no one better suited for the task," Moros assured. "And I look forward to the next time you don this dress, back in the House of Hades." Melinoe gave him a small curtsy, letting out a small giggle. "And I shall do my very best to that end, Lord Moros."
