walk me away from the past

still yearning for more healing

I'm not skilled at detecting "wine #notes,"
Be they cedar, vanilla, or oats.
I will NEVER know whether
A wine tastes like leather...
But I DO know which wines get my votes.

We've been saying this for over a year now, but here it is again: Americans are paying the cost of Trump's tariffs.

Nothing says 'traditional values' like making it so legally difficult for married women to vote that they collectively decide to stop taking their spouses' names.
Cons will be left wondering how their own voting bills accidentally became the most effective campaign for maiden names in history.

Into the basket of my heart,
I gather all the things
that bring you closer to me

so that when we're apart,
I may take them back out,
arranging them closely

as though
your very arms
did surround me.

Far off,
something thins.
Not siren.
Not wind.
A filament sound,
drawn tight
until it frays.

Static lifts
from the trees.
A hum through the haze.
In the distance
a mind

comes loose,
its echo
skittering
across the spruce.

Before The Clouds Deliquesce

Before the clouds deliquesce
A littoral breeze sails on the river
Tasting of salt, and freedom
It rustles in the aspen trees
Like far-away ocean waves

Before the clouds...

lying on the moss
moon & star ceiling
sleeping bag warm
a sound on the breeze
haunting & mournful
then more distant voices
a chorus of family
the music of wolves
not dangerous
much too far
just beautiful
song of wilderness

More likely she’d howl at the moon

Soon she’d have him changing his tune

Her words could be acerbic and biting
She’d only write minuscule
Demanding to break a rule
With teachers she was constantly fighting
