I don't think this 'slipped through' imho. I think not enough execs have gotten the picture that generative AI = backlash yet.

Jokes aside - the console space was/is so fucking toxic against Xbox that this (the smoking Xbox) was actual real "gaming news" that blew up all over the blogs etc. Same with the ping pong ball "hovering" over the fan.
I think hardware sales might've gone differently for Xbox if they could've figured out whatever design flaw led to this unfortunate situation.
