Black boys are socialized to be so many things other than children in the US.
We gotta be strong, street smart, easy to manage, non-threatening to bigots, etc before most of us know who we are as people.

A good rule of thumb is that if one feels the need to add "peaceful" in front of protest, they are conveying one or all of the following:
1) Conditional support
2) Demanding respectability
3) Shifting responsibility to the oppressed rather than oppressors
4) Disapproval of "uncomfortable" resistance
