You probably won’t have read much about these announcements over the past few weeks...

Amazing story in The Times. Reform UK failed to pay VAT to HMRC on its sales (tickets, merchandise). About £400k in all.

Not tax avoidance. Not tax evasion. They just didn't realise when you sell stuff you have to charge VAT.

I don’t want to say the words ‘I told you so’ re when the papers were insisting young ppl were flocking to Reform and I, who work with young ppl, said that didn’t seem correct to me, so I’m just going to leave this here…

I wonder if this guy is related to "Boris Johnson" who introduced "voter id" as Prime Minister in 2023 ... off the back of some crazy US conspiracy theories ... and in the process, made digital ID pretty much inevitable.

“The ECHR isn’t Brussels meddling. It’s the foundation that protects you from your own government.” 👏👏👏
Leaving the ECHR won’t “Take Back Control” – it will hand your rights to politicians
The myths are seductive, the reality is very different – without the ECHR your freedoms rest on whichever Home Secretary wakes up grumpy

I was once in a cafe minding my own business and two blokes at the next table, in impeccable local Gloucestershire accents, were discussing how to catch a swan to eat it. I imagine their families had migrated to England with the Saxons.
The Royal Parks has rejected Nigel Farage's claim that migrants are killing and eating swans from their grounds.

The RSPCA has also poured cold water on the claim, saying a video that has been circulating on social media was from 15 years ago

Royal Parks responds to Farage's claim that swans are being eaten by eastern Europeans in the UK
The Reform leader had accused migrants living in the UK of taking both carp and swans - a protected species - from ponds in Britain's Royal Parks and killing them.

After years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn’t like.
Let’s be clear about what happened to Jimmy Kimmel
Trump’s most brazen attack on free speech yet.

I don't know what Britain's odious pest Nigel Farage was doing in Congress today. But this country already has an oversupply of fascists who eagerly carry water for Vladimir Putin. We certainly don't need to be importing them from the UK.

I've been away from the UK and left X in the last 7 days. All I know from the news is some pole vaulter inadvertently got himself a job in the porn industry. I'll have to catch up on @quietriotpod.bsky.social to find out what the flip is going on everywhere. I hope they've covered everything 🤔

I've managed some unwonky holiday pics that didn't inadvertently include:
A crane
A pylon
A massive road in the foreground that I didn't notice.

Also loads that are/do.
