Ice hockey is an ‘underground sport’ in Australia but Heated Rivalry and word of mouth are helping pique interest among children and young adults
If there is one thing Australians pride themselves on, it’s playing sport in the elements. From long days of cricket at the height of summer, the sun beating down harsh and unforgiving, to mud-soaked footy in the dead of winter. It’s a test of character, and Australians wear it like a badge of honour.
So perhaps it is a surprise that Australia has yet to embrace ice hockey; tucked away in rinks so cold you need a puffer jacket just to sit and watch, even during summer. Combine that with its speed and brutal physicality, and it seems to tick every box. It might just be this country’s best kept sporting secret. Continue reading...

The event was founded in 1999 and has been held irregularly since then; the last time was in Racine in 2023.

Wisconsin native Karly Murphy has nominated for the #AFLW draft on Dec 15.
Murphy played D1 basketball at UWGB and Colorado St. She played in the NBL1 West before playing footy with the Denver Bulldogs at the end of this season.

The annoying thing was, I had just acquired Long Service Leave and my initial plans were (leading up to it) to have a winter Christmas in New York - love that city. Now, sadly, I won't be returning to the US until this Trump era is well and truly over.

Australians are abandoning travel to the US, and boycotting World Cup matches there next year, as the Trump administration flags new rules that will soon require visitors to hand over their social media history when applying to enter the country.
In a notice published on Tuesday, the US Customs and Border Protection agency (CBP) said tourists to the US from 42 countries including Australia would have to reveal all of their social media activity over the past five years under the new rules, which are up for a 60-day review before coming into effect.
