Children should not be dying from measles. Having people in charge of our public health agencies who push false narratives and misinformation are dangerous. Hard stop.

It has been a crazy week with lots of deep breaths needed. Even the public health and medical students I met with this week are worried. Thinking of all my ##publichealth, #meded, and others feeling a bit overwhelmed after these last few days.
A week of chaos in public health
The truth is, there’s a lot we don’t know yet.

Interesting data since rhetoric from GOP leadership seems much more negative on Medicaid. Maybe they know the base might support it, but also won't fight for it?

#healthpolicy
New KFF polling: 77% of adults have favorable view of #Medicaid including 63% of Republicans/62% of Trump voters. 65% of Republicans think federal Medicaid spending should be increased/is the right amount and only 15% make cutting Medicaid a top priority. #healthpolicy

We had this come up at a recent school board meeting. She used our school musical as an example of why we should focus on a merit-based approach (auditions) instead of DEI, but without seeing the diversity of the cast and that DEI gives all a chance to show off their talents
This thread
This is one way in which racism reproduces itself...by completely erasing the history of racism and replacing it with a whitewashed story of "meritocracy" or a vision of one's state (Oregon) in which white people have somehow always been here, occasionally surrounded by darker skinned "outsiders."

@cnn.com Please stop normalizing the crazy things he says. It is not okay for the President-Elect to talk about invading multiple sovereign countries, including our allies.

I keep wondering where we have failed in #meded that so many physicians in leadership roles don't support vaccination
An eye doctor who doesn’t believe in vaccines or masks is the Surgeon General in Louisiana.

Louisiana is home to one of the most prestigious schools of public health in the world. It trained me. We are better than this.

Not only does this put the lives of individuals at risk, but is also why we are struggling to staff our local #publichealth departments.
This is outrageous: “Staffers were also told that it applies to every aspect of the health department's work: Employees could not send out press releases, give interviews, hold vaccine events, give presentations or create social media posts encouraging the public to get the vaccines.”
Louisiana forbids public health workers from promoting COVID, flu and mpox shots
An NPR investigation found Louisiana health officials told staff to stop promoting vaccines for COVID, flu and mpox, holding flu shot events or otherwise encouraging the public to get those vaccines.
