Meta’s decision to ban ads about politics, elections, and social issues on their platforms like Facebook and Instagram in the EU is now implemented.

This is the new policy. Any ad about fx elections, civil rights, economy, health, climate, immigration, or foreign policy is now (presumably) banned.

Hi, I'm the guy who used to oversee the federal government's agency IT telecommunications contracts. This is extremely bad. There is absolutely no need for this. Not only is it a huge security exposure, but the simplest explanation for this is that it is meant to be a security exposure.

Lagging behind in my @reutersinstitute.bsky.social research readings. Finally had the time to look at this piece by @kschell.bsky.social. Awesome research (usual RISJ) but the impact matrix for AI in newsrooms is itself a phenomenal example in quality X density X concision of relevant information.

When I started my journey in sci-com / media / journalism studies in 2011 I was told the years ahead would be brutal for both brands and journalists. I never expected it to go this bad, I must confess. The reputational damage to legacy news media, as a whole, will probably be irreversible.
Turns out democracy dies in the the bright light of billionaire ownership.
