My mother has called me six times today. Can I let it go to voicemail if she calls again?

Her complaints today (so far?) have included: her foot hurts, my dad keeps forgetting to latch the door, did I forget to latch the door?, my dog unlatched the door. When is the turkey soup going to be ready? Why didn't I parboil the carrots first? The last batch of soup I made had too many noodles, she can't eat that. Her big cat is fighting with the little cat. She's advertised the cat for re-homing, because cat food is too expensive. Medicare is too expensive. Dad doesn't listen to her. If she calls again tonight, I'll look outside to make sure their house isn't on fire, but I'm not picking up.

Cloth off the loom. Part is linen both warp and weft, and parts (it looks darker in the picture) are linen warp and handspun wool weft/filling (a linsey-woolsey). The loom that wove the cloth. It is a large wooden cube, the wood dark with age. Another antique loom. This one is in a different room, and has a weaving in progress on it. I found this loom in Minnesota and it is Scandinavian in style. This is the cloth I am weaving on the second loom. It is cotton, with a dark blue warp and rusty red filling. The draft is from Davison's Green Book, "twill complication." The pattern in the cloth is a repeating series of diamonds in various sizes. A temple and a weaving shuttle are also in the picture.

A little needlepoint WIP. I'm having fun with different color combinations and pattern variations. This will be a fancy ribbon to hold fiber on a distaff.

Work in progress on a small needlepoint project. 8 pointed stars/flowers are worked in different shades of wool and dilk embroidery yarns, on a ribbon that's about 1.5 x 10" long. Itwill get a backing and some ties, and will be used to hold flax or wool on a distaff for spinning.

My youngest child has been learning to juggle, so I made these balls for her. 2nd picture shows how to make them. It's really very simple - scraps of yarn stitched with a blanket/buttonhole stich all over the surface! Knitting sets off my carpal tunnel these days, but this work is ok.

Scouring skeins of handspun linen yarn. These were spun by various workshop participants over the past year, so there's a lot of variability!

It was antique furniture rescue day at my local thrift stores! An 18th century gate leg table and a little tea table came home with me. I have zero ability to resist objects like this.

In the background, there's a tiny tea table that is also very old. The top of the gate leg table, freshly polished. The top is oval when opened, though the table may have originally had a rectangular top that was cut down. It is made of oak, or maybe chestnut? A detail view of one of the rails for the gate leg, showing where an earlier opening was filled in, suggesting that the table may have had a different, larger top at some point. A small side table. I don't know how old this is, but it has a couple of hand forged nails underneath, suggesting is is from the early 1800s (or a bit before? I don't know as much about old New England furniture as I'd like). Both pieces of furniture came from thrift shops near my home in southern Vermont.

I was a guest presenter at the Weaver's Guild of Boston this week. I brought this small warp in progress for folks to try. It was a good day. I'll use this for a future warp-weighted loom project.

I got a bunad! Found gently used on ebay for (I think) a good price. Previous owner was a giantess, so alterations are underway. It's prettier in person than in the pics, and has good twirl!

This bunad was made at Husfliden Lillehammer sometime after 2012, so it's not particularly old. It is a Dovre Bunad, a design created about a hundred years ago, and associated with the Gudbrandsdal region, which is where my paternal grandmother's family is from. I have started alterations to make it fit me. Fortunately, these garments are made to be easy to alter – it is assumed that they will be passed down, or that the wearer might keep it for a long time, and adjust the fit as her body shape changes.
