It's interesting how this has happened in the miniature wargaming space too - D&D and Games Workshop both have functional monopolies in their industries and a bizarre number of people get very defensive when you try to point this out and make excuses for it.
Listening to people say D&D has no negative bearing on the indie creative space at large has me tweaking.

This is true, and internalizing it will dramatically improve how you feel about yourself. Self depreciation, even as joke, will sink in until it's not a joke anymore. Keeping this in mind, reminding yourself that you too deserve kindness, is the best way to climb out of that hole. It can be done <3

Borders are tightening because states are preparing for the inevitable upsurge in climate refugees since we've collectively decided that we're going to make large swathes of the world uninhabitable over the next few decades.
This btw should be illustrative as to what typically happens to queer people seeking asylum. They just happen to be Nigerian so white queers have never heard of what happens to them--accused of lying about being gay, being deported, etc.
