Art is political. In the 1700s in Japan, Karai Haciemon (1718-90) invented senryu to poke fun at politicians and make social statements. Post some of your senryu below and I will choose one or two to share in our mid- February issue.

Frog and Toad went outside.

“We can try to climb this mountain,” said Frog. “That should tell us if we are brave.”

Frog went leaping over rocks, and Toad came puffing up behind him.

Kyiv.
Five and a half hours after the total blackout (officially: a major system outage) began.
Water is back,
electricity is back,
still no heating in my district.

Nigel Farage claims that he's fighting the Greens.

But for weeks now he's refused to debate me.

Reform know Gorton & Denton are ready to vote for the Green Party.

When it becomes clear that those same rich and powerful men are exploiting your anti-trans crusade as a diversion from the exposure of their crimes, a dodgy sense of priorities becomes a criminal level of complicity.

Might we tactfully point out that to obsess negatively with trans people when the richest and most powerful men in the world are trying to reverse centuries of humane progress and equality to acquire impunity for rape and murder shows a weird sense of priorities?

Wondering why I am so angry and vocal about the UK Govt building a toolkit for tyrants?

In the USA, ICE agents took facial rec for tracking ‘non-citizens’ (so grim in itself!) and then immediately used it to build themselves a database of human rights protestors. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/30/t...
