1. This is something I've been saying for 25 years, but it's hard to get many people to listen. What counts is not the new energy sources you add, but the old ones you retire. Unfortunately it's politically easier to build renewables than to shutter fossil fuels.🧵

Yesterday's post on home #Electrification generated lots of feedback. Nate the House Whisperer @energysmartwv.bsky.social ask about my total energy consumption before and after installing the HVAC HP and HPWH so I crunched the numbers. Electrifying your home results in less energy usage. 🧪🔌💡☀️💨🌊🔋

"The take-home message is clear.
Overlooking nature’s tree planters risks missing ‘win-win’ pathways for both climate mitigation and biodiversity conservation."
Our new study shows how animal biodiversity loss is a climate problem: tropical forests recover far less carbon where seed dispersers have declined.

We’re not just losing forests – we’re losing their ability to regrow.

Reversing that trend could align biodiversity recovery with climate solutions.🧵

Across the Western world, public opinion is overwhelmingly hostile to Israel’s crimes.

That isn’t being acted on because the Western media forms a protective shield around Israel, cementing its impunity.

Rhetorical question I assume?!
Every year, we pay £2.3bn more for our water/sewerage bills than if the suppliers were publicly owned. High bills, impossible debts, filthy rivers, minimal investment & no resilience: the gift of privatisation
Does the government operate in the interests of the country, or those of private capital?

THIS IS AMERICA: ICE isn’t stopping shit at the border. They’re raiding Utah neighborhoods with Pentagon-level gear.

And now they’ve got a bigger budget than the U.S. Marines.

It's probably fine.
Map of sewage sludge stores in England. Red dots are stores located in Nitrate Vulnerable Zones (NVZs) - where the soil contains so much nitrate it cannot absorb any more. Sewage sludge is high in nitrate. When it's added to saturated soils, rain can wash the excess nitrate into rivers. 1/2

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

Plastic nurdles may sound harmless - but, when a spill of nurdles occurs, as in the X-Press Pearl disaster, or off the coast of East Yorkshire this year, these tiny pieces of plastic can absorb other pollutants, & are eaten by sea creatures who cannot digest them, as Dr Megson explains here:
