Personally, I think this practice of rescission alone demands a shutdown unless 1) it is halted completely and 2) the four corners of the budget are secured by ironclad agreement.

Those of us who study authoritarian societies understand well how political violence gets used. The leaders' rhetoric stokes fear & division, while the state increasing violence suppression. Any act of violence against the state or its supporters becomes a justification for additional state violence

It's hard to exaggerate how serious this is. Russia is already known to have used some DOGE ID's and passwords. And this admin itself is a threat. Hard to imagine the damage that could be done. So many ways this data could be used ... to rig elections, for example. 😡

Snorted!
Dearest Martha,

The National Guard stand solemn watch at the Krispy Kreme tonight. I cannot tell if they defend the people from the donuts, or the donuts from the people. Powdered sugar hangs in the air like cannon smoke. Jensen took a hot coffee to the face, he may never recover.

Yours in glaze,

‘Parishioners excused.’

That’s how bad it is. A Catholic bishop lifted the obligation to attend Mass because ICE might raid the church.

Mass isn’t required “if a member of the faithful has a genuine fear of immigration enforcement actions.”

The feds should be ashamed. Terrorizing the faithful.

Note that the administration’s claim of a 700% increase in assaults on ICE agents is likely made up mostly of incidents like this: claims that a 71-year-old citizen “pushed” a masked armed agent.

You only hear "the dignity of work" from the softest men who consider a hard day's work to involve sitting behind a desk, yelling at interns, and then going on TV to complain and moan.
Russ Vought: "The social safety net has become a hammock in the last few years. And as a result, dependency has steeped in, and we want to restore the dignity of work."

The people who lost children and other loved ones in the Texas floods are owed honest answers from officials. They should be told why flash flood warnings issued hours earlier were not conveyed to people in the path of the water. They don’t need more prayers from politicians. They need answers.
