The rocks at the very top of Mount Everest, almost nine kilometres above sea level, are fossil-rich limestones deposited in a shallow marine sea 450 million years ago.

That's what plate tectonics can do.

Do not mess with librarians. They let complete strangers borrow their books. For a living. Even the hardcovers. They are so much stronger than you know.

Morning from Kyiv!

Every morning, Victory (still a cat)
asks me to open the window.
We have nets on the windows (don't worry).
So, today, she listened to the alert.
All clear already.

I'm back after the day off.

The cruel religion, fierce Nationalism, and rising hostility toward marginalized communities on display in America right now, is the fruit of a toxic selfishness that needs to horde resources, opportunity, and benefit for fear it will be left without.

Right before the election, and very much so thereafter, I needed different perspectives, reaffirmations that there are others like me, creative content that made me think, laugh and find meaning again in being human.
Use your library card!
If you don’t have one, get one! Explore your library !
I've been seeing a lot of posts about readers trying to curb their own book buying. Let me remind you of the library. Libraries can use your support now more than ever. When you checkout library books this lets funding authorities know the library is worthy of taxpayer money. 1/3

This is grossly irresponsible reporting by the AP. What’s being offered is not a buyout. The deal is if you agree to resign in September you can continue working remotely until then. There is no buyout or severance.

Don’t go along with illegal orders. Don’t preemptively do things like taking pronouns out of your email signature and disbanding everything that might be construed as DEI. Make them stop you
The most frustrating thing is people are just going along with illegal orders. Don't DO that! Like the person who was fired without whom there is no quorum and whose term doesn't end til '28 should not be considered fired and everybody should stand by her.

The media has failed the public on a crucial matter: the derangement of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., writes @davidcorn.bsky.social.

News reports often describe him as a vaccine skeptic when he is far more dangerous than that.

Wow. Caroline Kennedy breaks her silence on RFK Jr in a message to Senators: “We grew up together. It’s no surprise that he keeps birds of prey as pets because Bobby himself is a predator. He enjoyed showing off by putting baby chickens & mice in a blender to feed to his hawks.”

I didn’t expect to see some of these. I’m impressed, even if some may be virtue signaling. One step at a time, respect and the values of justice, freedom, and to allow all the pursuit of happiness must be recognized.
So far here’s a list of companies reinforcing their commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion:
