Reminder that the Trump-Republican Big Ugly Bill funneled $170B towards immigration enforcement and made ICE the highest-funded law enforcement agency in the country.

This is an important thread from my friend @normeisen.bsky.social. The lower federal courts have been a bulwark in defending the rule of law.

That said, the courts are no substitute for citizens organizing themselves and standing up for democracy at the ballot box and on the streets.
I disagree with the suggestion in the NYT story today that rule of law is not working to stop Trump

Yes the "Trump judges" have been disproportionately bad, but the overall win rate of over 60% or >320 wins is still EXTRAORDINARY

And the wins in the most important areas have been even bigger👇

In a week when a century happened, from VZ to MN, the biggest story was Trump's vow that nothing can stop him but 'my own morality' and 'my own mind'

But a dictatorship that relies on brute force, alternate truth can be stopped. By our morality. My new column www.inquirer.com/opinion/trum...

The reactionary centrist logic is simple: if the left does something bad it’s the left’s fault, and if the right does something bad, it’s also the left’s fault for making them do it. It’s a simple formula and once you see it every one of their arguments is the same
