Toronto based human.
I got nerd sniped in a chat room and decided to see what was available for optimizing my router to reduce bufferbloat, solving a problem I didn't really have, but learning some stuff along the way.
Battling bufferbloat with packet filter, dummynet, and FQ-CoDeL
Two decades ago my need to traffic shape the network at the apartment I shared with two other nerds drove my interest in FreeBSD, as I'd heard good things about packet filter with ALTQ and I couldn't ...

My wife is pregnant, and all the anti-vaxxers responsible for ensuring our newborn will need to survive a year in a country that has lost it's measles elimination status can burn in hell. Do your own research about wearing a seatbelt, not public health you fuckers.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Canada has lost its measles elimination status because of continued spread, international health experts say.

After the Rubygems drama, I felt frustrated that I can’t escape evil people trying to dominate my life.

I found myself mourning the future I thought we would have; but also hopeful that it’s not too late to start choosing kindness.

I think any story about Trump's autocracy should be mostly about the people and institutions who failed to stop it. This guy isn't a political genius, everything else just happens to be rotten. 'Toddler Consolidates Power In Household' is a story about incompetent parents, not shrewd maneuvering

I hear and see your concerns. Over the weekend, a couple users hosted on Blacksky's PDS were banned from the Bluesky app and thus the Bluesky API servers. This was a weakness of our system I've been aware of and hoped we had more time to address before any kind of public incident. 1/11

Proton-as-primary-email status update:

1. While I understand the challenges, the lack of client side search index support on mobile is kinda lame. The browser one works well enough on desktop though.

2. The lack of 'add link' functionality on mobile is nuts. Basic table stakes functionality.

This thread is about Hegseth’s fun socks, and perhaps the most damaging insult, from Pete’s perspective, is comparing him to Trudeau.
"Fun socks" are a visual blight when worn with dark worsted suits — they drag the eye downward, creating two competing points of attention. I've said the same of Justin Trudeau, who could be considered well dressed if it wasn't for his hosiery.

Silicon Valley enabled brutal mass detention and surveillance in China, internal documents show
U.S. technology firms such as IBM, Dell and Cisco largely designed and built China’s surveillance state, an AP investigation finds. The tech companies deny wrongdoing.

1. Settings -> Content & Media, turn off "autoplay video"
2. Keep your device sound off while browsing so an accidental activation won't include the sound

Staff worked almost a year on a request for bespoke policy, carving out this one road from the City's zoning bylaw permitting as-of-right garden suites, which came out in 2022.
