My Gen Z, European, cousin and I had this exact conversation last night with my Boomer, “socialism doesn’t work, look at the Soviet Union”, dad
The biggest divide in politics is between people who hear the word "socialism" and think "Soviet bread lines" and people who hear it and think "I'm told there are countries where cancer isn't also going to make me bankrupt".
So, my advice to centrist and center-left pundits who are trying their damnedest to fear-monger over democratic socialism: come up with a more attractive alternative for working class families and quickly. The past six months have accelerated frustration. You need to read the room.
