“If these trends are not stopped, science is going to be destroyed." Here's my story on the accelerating growth of systemic research fraud--aka paper mills. Gift link: nyti.ms/45rDirw
Fraudulent Scientific Papers Are Rapidly Increasing, Study Finds
A statistical analysis found that the number of fake journal articles being churned out by “paper mills” is doubling every year and a half.

Can I just say how fucking ridiculous it is that queer and nsfw art is more heavily regulated than the fucking plagiarism machine destroying our planet that is genAI

I'm constantly thinking about that Mel Brooks quote about how he would go to studio meetings and say "oh yes great idea definitely we'll do that" to every one of their notes and then go back to work and ignore all of them, basically banking that the execs would forget what they said, which they did.
reading an interview by a publisher running down how devs were responsible for a game direction failure the publisher itself dictated. time and time again, this bs happens with zero accountability: oh you didn’t like this? why did you tell them it was vital to do

Folds: If we’ve been told our whole lives that we can’t spend money on the arts because they’re not important—then why was taking over the Kennedy Center and the arts the first thing they did?

It is extremely important. It’s the bedrock of self-expression.

I cannot stress enough: you cannot give an inch on this issue.

The moment you start accepting media using genAI for "small" things or just tiny aspects of production, they will only start outsourcing more of the process to AI

This is how the smallest end of the wedge is driven in against laborers
We’ve seen a wide range of accusations regarding the use of AI-generated content in The Alters, and we feel it’s important to clarify our approach and give you more context.

There are no distractions. It's all bad. Systematically stripping trans people of their rights, guys in balaclavas shoving any brown person with a tattoo into a ummarked vans, ending healthcare for millions. It's all in service of fascism and technofeudalism. It's all one thing. That's the point.

This is a vital message: one of the larger reasons BlueSky is refreshingly free of alt-right shitlords is because in the early days we made a gentleperson’s agreement to starve these fuckos out and it worked. No likes, no quotes, no engagement. They got bored and left. Please keep the Old Ways.
Vice-President JD Vance confirms he has joined BlueSky.

So Google's latest consent violation is them generating "AI" audio of your voice in YouTube as an opt-out "service."

Here's how to turn it off (original images reposted with alt text):

This government report from 1973 encapsulates America's then-emerging fears about the US government cross-referencing databases to engineer social policy absent due process, and tendency of governments to categorize people deemed "high risk"

So anyway, I created an updated version of that XdanielArt chart that contains all the Adobe alternatives since there are a lot more now than there were back when that list was originally made, and Adobe has continued to get shittier and shittier.

Figure skating world championships were considered to be for men only until 1902, when Madge Syers showed up and took home silver and the ISU went "whooooops guess we need to segregate them."

It happened again in 1992 Olympic skeet shooting: Zhang Shan took gold and then they segregated the event.
