USAID’s website has been deleted, all that is left is a note saying all personnel are now on administrative leave and personnel outside the US are to be brought home. Completely illegal, no act of congress or even executive order was signed to dismantle the agency

@charlesgaba.com is a hero and downloaded CDC’s entire website. A small group of us has come together to preserve this critical resource and make it accessible to the scientific community.

More to come. These data are public and they are ours. Deletion disobedience is one way to fight back.

I’m sad to learn that my law school classmate, Kiah Duggins, died in the DC plane crash last night.

Kiah was an exceptionally talented civil rights lawyer and aspiring legal scholar.

I hope you’ll read about her work and the causes she cared about, some of which I’ll 🧵 below.

What an immense loss

My story on Portugal's low-cost health success story is getting a lot of attention this week, but please also read this related piece on how a country long tied to the African nations it colonized struggles to address racial health disparities, or even measure them. www.statnews.com/2024/12/10/r...
Color blind: Why Portugal has no idea how bad racial disparities are
Other countries in Europe, most notably the U.K. and Ireland, are starting to collect racial data and employ it in efforts to combat racism. The UN has asked Portugal to do so as well.

Consider reintroducing shared activities to provide a better context for implicit mentorship.

Many organizations for women in tech and other under-represented groups have shut down the past few years like Women Who Code and Girls In Tech. One of the reasons cited is lack of funds

So today is Shirley Chisholm’s 100th birthday!!!! She was an icon! My mentor was a volunteer for her, so I got to hear so many stories. We need to channel her energy today, because if we want change, we have to make it! That may make some uncomfortable, but oh well! The end result will be beautiful!
