Views are my own.
I reached out to some internet friends to see if they wanted to exchange physical letters with me.

I asked a fair few because I assumed I'd only get like 2 or 3 folks to be interested.

I wrote my 8th letter earlier this morning. I have more to write. lol

I think there's a hunger here.

Let's talk about generative AI, contaminated information, and rhubarb.

Once upon a time, Europe was at war.

Food was scarce, and the government of the quote-unquote United Kingdom looked for alternatives. 1/

We just did this last week!
Did you know that for five bucks a month you get access to the PBS passport streaming app which has tons of incredibly good shows and documentaries and things and it helps support their funding?
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting has been dissolved, ending its 58 years as the primary funder for PBS, NPR and local TV and radio stations

On my list of things to brew are:

Coriander Ale
Meadowsweet Ale
Hyssop Ale
Borage Ale
Lemon Balm Ale
Rosemary Ale

These are all gruits in that they don't use hops as the bittering agent. The herbs do that instead.
The herb garden is for cooking and brewing. I want to brew old fashioned seasonal ales and beers with what I grow. A lot of perennials here, which is nice.

Borage
Lovage
Hyssop
Meadowsweet
Agrimony
French Tarragon
Rosemary
Lemon Balm
Summer Savory
Basil
Cilantro (for the seeds, mostly)

Spent a wonderful day yesterday hiding from the internet.

I did all sorts of things, but one of them was spending hours looking through seed catalogues and planning the vegetable, herb, and flower gardens.

Last year we put in the raised beds and started to redo the front gardens.

I loved the first game! It really showcased the awkwardness of growing up.

This one is wishlisted.

The pipe under the kitchen sink just rusted out and fell apart. It was the original pipe from when the house was built ~80 years ago.

Guess we're dealing with plumbing today.

The maternal mortality rate (people who die directly because of child birth) in the USA is 32.9

In Canada it's 12. In the UK 13.56.

Honestly, I just assume everything about the US is dangerous and out to kill me.
it's funny when watching US movies or tv shows i used to be like "man, they sure do use food poisoning as a plot device *a lot* in america..."

then i learned their food poisoning statistics and it blew my mind. that's just how they live!

people DIE of food poisoning regularly in the US.

it's MAD.
Your fact of the day:

The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that one in six American citizens suffers a food-borne illness annually. In the UK, the figure is one in 132.

I just made a variation of the Spaghett with a jalapeno pilsner and lime juice and my god. This is way more delicious than it has any right to be.

We got a DAC so we could stream Qobuz through the Marantz and this is so good.

I'm having a wonderful morning blaring The Polyphonic Spree in high res and singing along.

I really need to pick up In the Beginning Stages of... on vinyl.

The timer for my heated mattress pad ended so even though I have been awake for nearly two hours, I guess it's time to get out of bed.

Yes! Love this mini thread.

The journey is the point, not the outcome.
I'll do one! A thing that signals film illiteracy: knowing just enough about movies to basic rhen patterns, then assuming a film is bad because ~you~ can spot the seams, they'll always be there if you look for them, and most people don't. You figuring out where they're headed doesn't mean anything.
If there's one thing that signals film illiteracy from someone online, it's when they deride humor used in another genre as being "a Marvel-like quip."

Go watch DIE HARD. "No shit, lady! Do you think I'm ordering a pizza?!" is the exact same kind of line that now gets called "quippy"

I stopped using Finch because they started using genAI and were stealing applicants' test project work for the app.

Started using Catzy which is pretty much what Finch used to be before they got super popular and started cutting corners. Instead of a bird, you have a cat.

It's great.

This show and Gargoyles, man...
Were 90s kids clamoring for a Batman cartoon with 1930s Art Deco aesthetics? Is that what the market demanded? Or did some really smart creative people have a vision and make a genre-defining hit that sustained 20 years of TV shows? If you want success look for vision, not just metrics.

Me: If you could be any named character from LotR, who would you be?

Kevin: Anyone? Oh, easy. Tom Bombadil. You?

Me: Treebeard. I'd like to be an Ent.

And this is why we are married.

I've seen a few people posting stuff along the lines of "2026 is the year I'm going to read more!"

My friend, don't pressure yourself. Even as an author, I say this: Read better, not more. Read what you love, stop reading something that isn't working for you. Don't aim for more, aim for pleasure.
