The feeling of holding a physical copy of my writing is indescribable!
I am honored to have been included in Trans & Disabled, an anthology compiled by Alex Iantaffi. This intersection of identities is beautiful and I cannot wait to read more from the contributors.

Ableism in academia is endemic. This volume brings together a range of perspectives, including feminism, post-structuralism, disability theory, and draws on many related disciplines.

Just a little reminder that indie authors really notice when someone buys one of our books, even if it’s not in person, and it’s a morsel of delight every time. (Thanks to whomever bought kindle copies of both my books today! I really, really hope that reading them also brings you happiness!)

Remember to backup your work, #nanowrimo folks (and, well, everyone really). Last hour was spent bring my main laptop back to life after a bad update. I was panicking thinking I'd lost three weeks worth of work!

Also, are hashtags a thing on Blue Sky?

I watch PBS’s Nova religiously and learned last night that Oxford has developed a new vaccine for malaria that has 70-80% efficacy and it just got approved by the WHO and will save millions of lives in the years to come. Sharing some good news bc it tends to get lost out there.

My main revision tips:
1. Revising is a learned skill. You’ll get better at it as you do it more.
2. Go in layers. Don’t do everything at once, in the same pass. I generally do a structural pass first, then a large scene level (full rewrite), then small scene level, then details, then line edits +
I had mine removed ten years ago. Still miss it. What advice do you have for editing a first draft? Wrote it during Nanowrimo and I'm intimidated by how much work it needs.

[through gritted teeth] the first draft doesn't have to be perfect it just has to exist *it just has to exist*

mine was about two people who were part of a genetic group with superpowers and colored hair. the FMC could understand animals. the MMC dyed his hair and hid his power

shh if you notice which author I was inspired by, no you didn’t

it can still be found on Wattpad lol
so, to the writers... what was the terrible novel you wrote at 14? Mine was about a redhaired freedom fighter called Eleanor Sunstripe

i’m cutting an extraneous goal of Bennett’s, causing me to crave writing another in-universe character with that goal. maybe set in the 150 years between CitC and PrequelWIP? the books in this universe are getting out of control. luckily, each can stand alone

is it bad to give someone from each of my books my chronic pain/fatigue? will it be tiring for my readers?

One thing you can learn from slush reading is that there are many truly excellent ones that are just not quite the right fit.

A form R on a short doesn't necessarily mean your story is terrible and beyond salvaging, maybe it wasn't the right shape for *that market*.

Remember that when subbing.

it’s incredible how good writing feels after a short break. i know conceptually that revising is where the magic happens, but drafting is where my heart soars.

what about you? do you prefer writing or editing?
