i tell you what, if Democrats win the elections in 2026 and 2028, one of the biggest mistakes they could make is to talk about uniting the country by not prosecuting all of the lawbreakers and corruption of Trump administration officials. One reason we are here today is Ford's pardon of Nixon.

I don’t think it’s possible to understate how far out of reach winning back the White House in 2028 will be for Democrats if they win in the midterms and don’t use their majority to fight back against Trump’s authoritarianism. “Turning the page” isn’t an option anymore.
If Dems win the midterms, there's going to be a huge temptation to subordinate everything in Congress to a messaging strategy about "affordability" to prep for the '28 presidential election. I have no problem with good messaging, but Kevin is right that Dems have to use power to stop the bleeding.
Some of us were saying during the shutdown that Democrats should have at least made the demand that Trump fire Vought to reopen the government since he's doing impoundment

Think of how to force the firing of Miller, Vought, Bondi, Hegseth, Noem, RFK & finding leverage to make it costly to keep them

I got an actual "Your silence on this subject is deafening" message this AM, so, super-quick: Nobody here owes anyone commentary about anything. This is a public park. It's full of interesting people. We hang out here, make friends, and chat, and then we leave to do whatever it is we do. That's it!

And we knew this. This wasn't speculation. We studied it, we had the talking points. We trained volunteers to explain this to people. It's not a surprise. Rich people don't flee places with good quality of life when we increase the quality of life. They might try to cheat us, but they don't leave.
NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

Hey everyone. Sorry to be asking with things the way they are , but the power steering pump is almost dead on our car and it’s going to cost around $1000 to fix. It’s an older Mazda and it’s tucked into the most awkward place ever! And it’s original to the car. IYKYK. WD-40 going to make a fortune.

Couple things: WE have been plenty capable of spending energy in multiple directions at once, the problem you aren’t getting is we’re sick of YOUR lack of energy spend on any part of this fight. Maybe if you actually FOUGHT once in a while you’d get less smoke from us.
But there are real dangers out there that must be fought; and energy spent fighting each other is energy lost to that bigger fight.

Fuck this performative loser and his fucking harmonicas.
Kaine on why he thinks just getting a vote on healthcare is a win: "We're the minority party, but everybody will get to see who is standing for them when it comes to lowering their healthcare costs"

Is it too much to ask for a senator who’ll get in a fucking car to get back to Maine from D.C. rather than sell us out for a quicker flight home?
Angus King: "This initial strategy didn't work. And now we have one. We're gonna have a guaranteed vote on the ACA, and it may not succeed. I grant that. But a reasonable chance -- 10, 20, 30% -- is a lot better than 0% which is where we were."

We’ve known, Jeanne. We didn’t need another lesson, Jeanne. All you’re showing us is who’ll sell us out to them for a quicker trip home on the weekends, Jeanne.
Shaheen: "I think we can get a bipartisan bill out of the Senate that will address this [healthcare] issue. And if not, we know that the voters are going to know who's on their side and who's going to hold them accountable."

Regardless of how hard I’m working to get rid of Trump and MAGA in 2028, every D senator who thought they could get away with this bullshit and be safe deserves to be primaried and I will gleefully support all their challengers.
How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

I will not support a deal that does nothing to make health care more affordable.

We are in a health care emergency. A simple one-year extension of these tax credits would cost less than Donald Trump’s $40 billion bailout for Argentina.

A vote for this bill is a mistake.
