Today I learned that if your Apple Pencil has stopped talking to your iPad, and you talk to support, they want the serial number of the pencil. And if your iPad can't read it because they aren't talking, the only way to get it is in tiny, tiny text in the inside of the pencil tip

It has been zero days since the last time I saw he/him pronouns used as generic engineer pronouns
It is 2025, and apparently people are still sending out emails where they use he/him pronouns for the entire engineering team

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Someone asked me about my mask this week, and was clearly not at all prepared for me to explain that I’m chronically ill and vulnerable if I catch something
Sometimes when people ask me why I’m wearing a mask I say I’m traveling or have some important thing soon and can’t afford to get sick and miss it and that’s pretty much always true but I think it would be nice if it were more normalized to just say “I don’t want to get sick” and leave it at that

I got a lot of feedback at the beginning of my career that I was “aggressive” for defending my ideas the same way the men were
I'm not linking to that NYT piece today, but of all the horrible parts of it, this was the worst. This was an explanation of "female vices" in the workplace and LET ME JUST TELL YOU...

Time change plus Costco trip (where it seemed like the entire province decided to go to Costco today) and I'm going to end up in bed by 8pm

Failed at knitting math, but thankfully I double checked before I had to rip a bunch out.

I thought I was done with increases but I actually have twelve rows left

I love how delighted kids of all ages are that I offer stickers along with chocolate

I bought a roll of Halloween stickers 3 years ago, and cut them up into strips of four. Kids love them

So far I've massively overbought for Halloween candy this year

The weather was awful earlier today, although it cleared up by 3:30. But I've had almost no kids compared to previous years

The cats have been locked in their prisons for Halloween (office with the heated cat bed for Purl, bedroom with lots of toys for Stitch), and Stitch is loudly letting me know that he is not ok with this

I can't find my DPNs in the right size, so I'm doing magic loop, and I forgot just how much I despise magic loop

(I'm glad if it works for you! But I hate it so much.)

I firmly believe that the Notwithstanding Clause should not exist, and any government that uses it should be ashamed of themselves

If you can't achieve your goal without violating fundamental rights, then you shouldn't be doing that in the first place

I'm on my fourth attempt at what should be a fairly simple cast on. Stitch has decided to help

Stitch has a new game.

1. Stand on the edge of the bathtub behind the clear shower curtain while I'm showering
2. Slowly lean as far as possible into the bathtub
3. Fall in
4. Scramble out of the tub
5. Repeat

Now there are wet kitten footprints everywhere
