a useful thoughtform I employ is “giving gifts to my future self” — I’m at the mercy of the one who packed my bag this morning, the one who slept last night, the one who got groceries. And they’re all me. So if I keep my future self in mind when doing things, they stack and my days get better

my partner asked “where did all the hipsters go?” and looked it up and the answer was harrowing. they never went anywhere. hipster culture just dissolved into the mainstream. everything the hipsters liked is now popular. We all got fully colonized

What we're seeing in the "don't sign up for protests" discourse is what Paulo Freire described as the convert's failure to trust the knowledge of the oppressed. As the convert tries to stand in solidarity with the oppressed, they refuse to let go of a world where they were the authority by default.
