Q: What was RFK Jr's reaction when you raised the need to consult scientific evidence?
Former CDC Director: He stated there was no scientific evidence associated with vaccines. He called CDC the most corrupt agency in the world. He said that CDC employees were horrible people, were killing children

A central underpinning of conservatism is the willingness to break something to prove it’s broken; the CDC, FEMA, public ed, higher ed, organized labor, hell, the entirety of the electoral process!
They don’t care who it hurts. They don’t care that it’s regressive. It’s f*cked up & intentional.

It ain’t lost on me that this is happening at a time when alcohol — as a product, a social entity, a lobby, etc. — is at its weakest point in decades. It feels a bit like the death rattle of a once-powerful influence across culture & politics, with ire directed at a vice on the opposite trajectory.
But like actually where did the political will to take the hemp industry out back and shoot it come from

That old metaphor about the frog and the boiling water isn’t true: If you put a frog in a pot of water and slowly raise the heat, the frog will jump out before it gets boiled to death.

When I moved to Wisconsin, I got my mandatory state-issued flannel & my mandatory station wagon (complete with slappable hood) — but I had to sing the Menards jingle in front of a man named David Gruber before they’d ever let me in the Mars Cheese Castle.

Absolute lunacy.
The shutdown deal includes a ban on hemp products that none of its negotiators debated in public.
Disappointing that only 24 senators voted against killing an amendment to strike that ban.

If there exists a subjective scale of different types of corruption, this feels like corruption’s corruption — like a supervillain version of corruption crafted in a nefarious corruption lab.
Rule by deal=ad hoc agreements with domestic companies & foreign nations that benefit the president & businesses he favors. Each deal is individually negotiated, unpredictable, & unconnected. They often fall apart. The only benefit is bringing powerful men to heel. prospect.org/2025/11/10/t...

We have some shutdown stuff coming, but I want to turn your attention to this great piece from Chris Hughes, who has really done the best analysis on what Trump economics is: not industrial policy or right populism or America First. It's rule by deal.

Rule by Deal - The American Prospect
Donald Trump engages in ad hoc agreements with individual companies and governments to expand his power. Some observers have described these actions as a new “economic nationalism”—but that term fails...

It is a good opportunity to remind folks that clickbait from friendly sources is still clickbait.
This is not a surprise to anyone who was closely following this case. It *ought* to be, however, a moment to reflect upon the responsibility (or not) of media outlets that, deliberately or not, led folks to believe that a grant was a serious possibility (which it never was).
