My latest for the Bay Area Reporter is a review of the excellent new biography of Craig Rodwell by John Van Hoesen. This book helps demolish the distinction between pre and post Stonewall and reminds us of Rodwell's role as a community builder. Highly recommended!

‘Insist That They Love You: Craig Rodwell and the Fight for Gay Pride’ – John Van Hoesen’s biography charts the gay activist’s life
A new expansive biography reveals Craig Rodwell as being a pivotal person at the epicenter of 1960s & '70s gay activism, along with being the proprietor of the historic Oscar Wilde Memorial Bookshop.

TV host says the right must "go to war" with the left? Pfft.

TV host says the government is cracking down on critics? Well, the government cracks down on him for the criticism.

Maybe it's not a good idea to have someone who's on trial for corruption making decisions about war.
"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel confirmed the start of a new phase in the war on Tuesday when he appeared in a Tel Aviv courtroom to give testimony in his corruption trial."

much easier to understand the sheer bloody intensity of the civil war when you have a good grasp on just how terrible slavery was.
"How bad slavery was" is worse. Much worse. Much worse than you think, much worse than you're taught, much worse than museums depict. Worse.

It's so funny how the Roman Empire officially adopted Christianity, and it changed absolutely zero about how brutal they were in conquest and oppression.

They were just like: "ok ok guys, from now on we have to brutally dominate the world in the name of love and peace. Agreed?"

Proud to write for the B.A.R.!
27 years ago, two years after the introduction of effective HIV treatment, the Bay Area Reporter, San Francisco’s lesbian and gay community newspaper, ran ‘No Obits’ as its headline.
It was the first edition not to report an AIDS death in almost 15 years.
