We built an incredible bloc that passed resolutions ranging from support for liberal Jewish institutions within Israel, to a state commission of inquiry into October 7th, to the blockage of illegal settlement activity in Gaza and the West Bank. This is where most Diaspora Jews *are.*
An op-ed preaching "unity" labels us anti-Zionist and calls for our expulsion. All because we mustered a majority and got our resolutions passed.
At the next WZC, we'll be back and even stronger.

We just prevented the World Zionist Organization from funding any Israeli settlement in Gaza. The Meretz-backed union at the World Zionist Congress ran this resolution, and I’m beyond proud of @partners4israel.bsky.social and @hatikvahslate.bsky.social right now!

THIS is why we stay in the room.

Imagine having such a brittle and venomous worldview that you have this kind of reaction to the words “peace” and “diplomacy,” or go after my board member and THE Sabbath Queen. Get real.
L: Our VP Karen Shapiro, with R' Amichai Lau-Lavie, at the World Zionist Congress, standing up for the values we want Israel to support.
R: The "collegial" response we got after posting it.
We were assaulted physically in Jerusalem. And being assaulted verbally on social media. We won't back down.

Einav Zangauker and other hostage family members are facing a smear campaign backed by Netanyahu, who'd like them all to just disappear and stop calling for accountability via a state commission of inquiry to investigate the failures of October 7.

How dare you not hope.

There’s going to be years more of hurdles, and the end goal is not only to get the hostages home. People were going practically door to door in northern Gaza to spread the news because there’s no internet/WiFi there. Several people died of starvation in Gaza yesterday. 1/x

Plurality of Jewish Americans (48%) disapproves of Israeli government's military action in Gaza; 61% say it's committing war crimes there; 39% say it's committing a genocide; 59% say it's not doing enough to allow food in.

Many American Jews sharply critical of Israel on Gaza, Post poll finds
Most Jews say Israel is committing war crimes — and 39 percent say genocide — while often distinguishing between the country and its leadership.

I had just been reflecting with a colleague a few days ago about the shooting in Halle on Yom Kippur six years ago, and this morning arrived to lead services and heard the news of this terrible antisemitic attack in Manchester. Seeing the image of blood on Rabbi Walker’s kittel is chilling. No more.

This guide is the result of a lot of careful research, soul-searching, and deep listening. This conversation is so painful for Jewish communities, and our discomfort can’t override the reality of what is happening in Gaza.
With tears and grief, we share this new resource. Acknowledging what is happening in Gaza is deeply painful, but it mustn't stand in the way of telling the truth about what we are witnessing.
We urge you to read this resource in full on our website -

This kind of zero-sum thinking makes for good clickbait 🙄 but this is a historic moment for Palestinians AND Israelis.

This recognition means an international commitment to an end to Hamas in power in Gaza, self-determination for Israelis and Palestinians alike, and human rights for all.

My former teacher R’ Avidan is no stranger to sudden arrest and police violence— he founded a small NGO called Yanshoof, dedicated to creating moral limits on Israel’s international arms sales.

Bibi is afraid of the shofar, of a call to accountability? Clearly.
At 6:29 this morning, Rabbi Avidan Friedman was arrested after blowing a shofar at the hostage families’ encampment in front of the Prime Minister’s residence in Jerusalem 🧵

Continuing to hold my breath with anxiety in the wake of yesterday’s strike in Doha. There’s no way forward except to seal a deal for a full hostage exchange and an end to military action in Gaza. The lives of civilians must be more valuable than this. #AllforAll #RightNow
4/4 We have no love lost for Hamas, which can't remain in power at war's end, but today's airstrike undermines the necessary hostage deal and end of the war. Israel's action must not be the end of negotiations to accomplish those goals. Full statement: www.progressiveisrael.org/statement-se...

Sam Fleischacker: I witnessed settler violence in the West Bank. It deserves our outrage too.
Low-level harassment by Israeli settlers in the West Bank is just as effective at ethnic cleansing as the war in Gaza.

My recent review of Mohammed Omar Almoghayer’s new book, “On the Pleasures of Living in Gaza.”
"On the Pleasures of Living in Gaza" is "a paean to a world destroyed as its author labored to record it, an homage to the resilience of a life made beautiful in defiance of successive wars," writes our ED, R' @mhughesrob.bsky.social, in our Summer e-zine. www.progressiveisrael.org/book-review-...
