We have upgraded our geomagnetic forecast today (12 November 2025) to the highest intensity level amid an ongoing solar storm.

Current predictions suggest that the activity will result in potentially the largest solar storm to hit our planet in over two decades.

There is a large coronal hole facing Earth right now that is currently sending fast solar wind towers Earth! We may feel the first effects as early as August 17 or 18. It’s possible we see G1 or even G2-level storming and mid-latitude aurora. The moon will be less bright, too. Who’s ready?

Now is the time to look for the #constellation Corona Borealis, aka the Northern Crown! From the Northern Hemisphere, it is high overhead during the evening hours, and from the Southern Hemisphere, the constellation is low in the northern sky. 🌌👑🔭

Last week I caught some of the most phenomenal events in the sky.
These sprites were so strong and so close that their colors reached maximum intensity from my vantage point.
The pink, purple, and blue colors at the lower 40-50km altitude are where the air is denser, meaning where molecules

On #WorldConservationDay, we highlight nature’s crucial services 🐝 Pollination, water purification, & flood regulation provide trillions in economic value annually, yet these benefits are often overlooked in decision-making. Why valuing nature is key ⤵️

Etymology of the day: spiders were once known as ‘attercops’, or ‘poison-heads’, because it was believed most spiders were venomous. The ‘cop’ element became the ‘cob’ in ‘cobweb’.

Best bloom of pincushion cactus I’ve ever seen! The colour of these pincushion cactus blooms is a camera sensor-buster and it made me go down a rabbit hole of cactus flower anatomy. This is one of 3 species of cacti native to #Saskatchewan (other 2 are prickly pears) 🌿🌵

Meanwhile in Alberta, this is what our Minister is doing for wildlife...and don't buy the BS about it being "for conservation," the funds go to the Alberta Professional Outfitters Society to divvy it up, so it's not exactly 'conservation' as you and I might think.

Red sprites are the perfect blend of science and nature, fleeting moments of beauty in our own atmosphere.

Each red spear is an excited ion channel, several miles long and triggering 50 miles above some massive charge change in the clouds below.
