I just updated the settings for my work email, and will update my personal account as well. One of my frustrations with LLMs and the AI race is that they are not seeking the consent of product users, but continue to integrate AI into tools, putting privacy at risk. Where’s my “opt-in?”
Gmail can read your emails and attachments to train its AI, unless you opt out.

This is legit, and the instructions are fairly simple and work. You have to do the whole thing to every separate Gmail account you have, too.

A new Gmail update may allow Google to use your private messages and attachments for AI training. Here's how to turn it off.

“The future being pushed by both AI boosters and educational censors is one where access to information is tightly controlled.”

Librarians will always fight for your freedom to access information & read without restrictions-AND we need our communities to value & stand up for library professionals!
Librarians told 404 Media they're being inundated with new pitches for AI library tech and catalogs are being flooded with AI slop books.

But more broadly, AI maximalism across society is supercharging the ideological war on libraries, schools, government workers, and academics.
AI Is Supercharging the War on Libraries, Education, and Human Knowledge
"Fascism and AI, whether or not they have the same goals, they sure are working to accelerate one another."

We love this book! There’s also a great author read aloud -en español- on TeachingBooks!
Kindergarten students are studying senses, so they listened to MY PAPI HAS A MOTORCYCLE by Isabel Quintero w/art by Zeke Peña w/a @noveleffect.bsky.social soundscape, then drew things they can see, hear, smell, & touch in their own neighborhoods. #SchoolLibrary #kidlit #TLSky #EduSky

Attended a great workshop at the Teton County Library yesterday to learn more about writing effective op-eds. The structure of Topic (what do I care about) / Theme (what is most important for you to know) can also be applied for elevator pitch types of convos. Have yours ready when you need it!

There are some “North Star” people for me in these times, and @librarianjones.com is one of them. She uses any well-deserved recognition to center students and lift up our profession & colleagues. She powerfully communicates the critical importance of intellectual freedom & book access for all. 👏🏻

I read “Little Libraries, Big Heroes” by Miranda Paul & John Parra to 4th graders last week. We discussed the importance of book access, and the power of taking an idea & making it into something that creates and nourishes communities. #booksky #bannedbooksweek #bookaccessforall

👏🏻 🌈 🐶 A clear-eyed & important statement.
Still in disbelief and disgust at this decision. Educators & librarians will not normalize hate. We will find a place on the shelf for everyone’s story. The children are watching. #keepspeakingup #resist #celebratediversity #edusky #skybrarians #scotus
Pride Puppy illustrator @whatwouldjuliedraw.bsky.social and I wrote a statement on today's SCOTUS decision in the Mahmoud v Taylor case. Here it is.

The MN sign… 💔
No Kings Day was one of the largest days of protest in US history. From deep red small towns to our largest cities, millions of people turned out to make it clear that the American people will not bow to fascism. #NoKings

Loved the clarity of this conversation. I want to keep thinking about…

A shift in mission and message- not freedom “from,” but freedom “to.”

And…let’s imagine. Let’s dream. Let’s plan. What can we build together, what better future can we create for ourselves and next generations?
