Monk of Saint Meinrad Archabbey

The other Gregory, not the Great, but "the Father of the Fathers".

Recently, a confrere launched a YouTube with drone footage that gives a glimpse of life at Saint Meinrad Archabbey. You might see me in some of the footage, but I am a mere black robed creature amidst the local beauty.

This is you and Kurt friend Kit in the Abbey Church.
my friend says some of my takes are “Sicilian grandma” interpretations of Catholic things. (part of my cultural background is very Chicago-Sicilian.) just imagine a dedicated little corner of my brain looks like this:

Those who claim Lonergan is too Kantian need to pick up Newman's Grammar of Assent and look at how much Newman idioms are pervading Lonergan's Insight and Method in Theology.
if someone accuses Lonergan of being a Kantian I’m just gonna use that “tradition” as an example of what I mean when I say you should go understand the original questions and their texts and not just what people tell you. stakes are less scary than doctrine/dogma, but more annoying to me personally.

Once, I told a confrere to beware of hiding amidst geese if he was asked to be a bishop. Today is his Feast Day.
11th November is the feast of St Martin of Tours. Here men and women are depicted hawking while St Martin is sharing his cloak with a beggar.

For the theo nerds: Dr. Jennifer Newsome Martin gave an excellent presentation on HUvB, Communio, and his relationship to Karl Rahner.

Seminaries report seeing fruits of discipleship, discernment in ‘propadeutic year’ - OSV News
Seminary formation was already notoriously long and recently, an additional year has been added: the propadeutic year. Yet few are complaining.

It’s pretty easy to say: JD Vance is a Catholic and he’s being a bad one. He is directly contravening the Church’s stance on human dignity in multiple ways, but his refusal to disavow antisemitism is especially disturbing given the Church’s own history and its own repentance of that history.

Random side note: I am somewhat a Poe fan, but he is the only gothic fiction writer I was exposed to in my parochial education.
"But the Prince Prospero was happy and dauntless and sagacious. When his dominions were half depopulated, he summoned to his presence a thousand hale and lighthearted friends from among the knights and dames of his court, and with these retired to the deep seclusion of one of his castellated abbeys.
In the midst of a government shutdown, as masked ICE agents roam America’s cities with impunity, with lines at food banks across the country growing, and farmers at risk as America bails out Argentina instead…

The memoir of Dietrich von Hildebrand during 1922-1934 is marked by bewilderment, desolation, and resolve. Imagine yourself witnessing friends, fellow intellectuals, neighbors, fellow believers, and entire segments of the country ascent and be influenced by Nazi propoganda and political violence.

“When an Orthodox theologian draws on Aquinas, must the result be a kind of hybrid of Eastern and Western thought? That may well happen, but it need not happen. In the case of Scholarios’s use of Aquinas…we do not have a tertium quid, neither Catholic nor Orthodox.”
